Fenton, I understand you are a scientist, but even you must acknowledge that scientists, even with all the technology we now possess, cannot stop the tides from rising, and cannot stop the rains from eroding islands, if that is what the forces of nature are determined to do.

Look at a map of the world one billion years ago, and you will see that even the continents we stand on are temporary in nature, and are constantly changing shape and moving about on the surface of the planet. Mankind is totally helpless to interfere with this process, or even slow it down.

The Earth, in all her ancient billions of years old mightiness, doesn't even notice our puny little cities, which have only been here a few thousand years, and will be gone in a few thousand years more, as if they never existed. Our efforts to lower the tides and stem the overflow of the rivers are feeble and temporary, as are we. The entire lifetime of the human race and all our civilizations are just a blink in the eye of time and space, and Earth will bury our cities and not even remember we were there.

...so why bother...........

We bother because we are eternal creatures, destined for eternal life. Everything we do matters, and gets us closer to the Light, or further away from it.

On the other hand, all that we build on this Earth is a flash in the pan, destined to last only a few hundred or a few thousand years, before it is swept away by the inexorable force that is Mother Nature.

Well, I would like to think that, but I see absolutely no evidence for that. And I see ample evidence from the laws of physics and chemistry for the effects of the GHGs that we put into the atmosphere lasting for centuries.

Rook, maybe science cannot do all of that yet, nor does it need to do any of that. But what science has already done was to increase the average life span by almost double in the years between my grandfathers birth and the present. We have learned how to split the very atoms themselves, and harness that energy for our use. And now we are harnessing the energy of the sun and wind for our energy needs.

In the meantime, the very religious have given us wars and atrocities untold. All in the name of whatever Deity they happen to believe in.

Perhaps the military industrial complex should cease and desist with the geo-engineering program that has been manipulating weather patterns since it began in earnest in 1997.
