She’s Right About Civil War

#1) The Confederate States had ceceded from the Union, wrote a constitution and sent diplomats abroad.
#2) The North invaded the South.
#3) The Federal Army had whole units of immigrants who did not speak English. If you had a bunch of Germans marching through your town...you would think them as foreign invaders.
#4) When a confederate POW was asked by a Union officer, “ Why are you fighting this war soldier?” The confederate answered, “Because your down here.”
So the confederate soldier felt they were defending their nation.

They looked at slavery as part of their daily life. In their opinions better than bringing Catholic immigrants into their society. The Confederate Battle Flag did not have a red background but an orange one in order to show their Protestant traditions. See William of Orange. When the KKK was started they were expressly anti- Catholic. If you look at Civil War you cannot overlook the religious angle. Protestant denominations in South, even today, feel all Catholics are going to Hell. I know this for a fact. I’m Roman Catholic.

The left has pushed revisionist history since Carl Sandburg (a socialist) biography of Abraham Lincoln. Do you think Union troops were fighting the war over slavery? It was to preserve the perpetual Union.

It was also to destroy State's Rights, and make the Federal Government of the North dominant.

Lincoln said he would preserve the Union even if it didn’t free a single slave.

Very true. Most people of the time felt it would be resolved as the earlier Nullification Crisis had been.

If the South wanted to be left alone, why did they start the war by firing on a U.S. Federal installation that was doing nothing to them?

Why don't you go find yourself a good history of the Civil War and answer that question you have that should have been answered by your high school history teacher?

See the Nullification Crisis 1832. Lincoln had already stated that secession would not be allowed. Andrew Jackson asked for a force bill in 1832 so the South could expect said same. Also, the South was not being left alone. Northern members of Congress, in order to protect wealthy industrialist, had pushed for tariffs that would have been detrimental to southern planters.
"Southern planters". That sounds so neutral, even pleasant. "Planters". Has a nice sound. Plants are nice. Almost seems 'ecological'. Of course, when one considers that it really means heartless exploiter of humans, slave holder/raper/murderer, it loses its charm.

You told him to learn history when he stated a historical fact the South started the war when they fired on the fort. Lincoln hadn't even called up the Militia at that point.

There you go again denying that the South fired on the fort starting the war. At that point Lincoln had not even mobilized the Militia. You deny the south seized Federal property and mobilized an army before Lincoln ever did, remind me who was itching for war? Lincoln tried to TALK to the South and his response the south forming armies, seizing federal property and attacking Federal Forts.
