Should McConnell invoke the "nuke option" on behalf of Gorsuch?

No.

He should not do so because if/when the GOP are in the minority, but not a "super minority," they won't want the "nuclear option" used against them. That's a door that, once opened, cannot be shut and that foments greater discord and divisiveness in the Senate. That's not good for Senators or for the people who elected them, no matter the party.

Democrats are seriously considering a filibuster on the vote for Gorsuch to the SCOTUS....The memory of how judge Garland was treated by McConnell, coupled with the very real fact that the Trump administration is currently under FBI (and other intelligence agencies') investigation...possibly even subsequent criminal investigations.

So, should McConnell invoke the nuclear option to seat Gorsuch and risk a precedent that could backfire for the GOP.......or allow the Gorsuch confirmation to wither away?

Of course.

If Trump gets through his first term, he will be considered a success.
He'll certainly claim that "feat" as one.

More to the point, however, it's a damn shame that the bar has been lowered to the point that merely surviving in the office of President can be brooked as a success. Even the "floating" of that notion is a profoundly pitiful commentary on the state of our democracy and the quality of person we've emplaced as POTUS.

Trump may well be gone before the end of next year.

No other president except J Q Adams has had such a bad start.

They should get rid of the filibuster...it only helps the democrats...the Rinos in the senate will always vote to allow the Sotomayor, Breyers, Ginsburg and kegans on the court...the democrats will filibuster any justice they want. Then, if the republicans ever do try to filibuster a democrat Supreme Court nominee, the democrats will then vote to end the filibuster.....

The only one the filibuster helps is the democrats.....get rid of it...

Reid and the dems started this shit with the obamacare vote. What goes around comes around.

We are a divided nation, and that is destroying us. Partisan politics must end if our nation is to survive.

When did this shit start? Nixon?

Before that. LBJ for pulling the trigger on the Vietnam war.

Repub behavior at present is unacceptable. They should mend their ways sooner rather than later.

In "fairness" to Reid (whom I very much disliked) applied the nuke option ONLY to appoint the dozens upon dozens of federal judge-ships that were being filibustered by the GOP........EXCLUDING the option from any seats in the SCOTUS.

NOT true. obozocare would never have passed without the nuke option. Reid was the first in history to use it on a bill of such significance. But payback is hell, obamacare is crashing and the pubs are using Reid's tactics.

I'm not sure this is the hill the Democrats need to die on. Gorsuch is probably the best justice you are going to get out of this administration.

The fact is, all nominating Gorsuch does is return the court to its pre-Scalia's death status of 4-1-4. Probably best to let this one slide and then fight him tooth and nail on the next one, perhaps after the 2018 midterms when things are more favorable.

Fully agree........Gorsuch may turn out to be just another Kennedy or even Roberts and render decisions that may actually surprise (unpleasantly) arch conservatives ...

However, the NEXT possible nomination must be fought....and fought hard.

Nonetheless, as it currently stands, Schumer has vowed to filibuster Gorsuch's approval.

schumer is a hypocrite, he voted to confirm Gorsuch the first time.
There has been no vote at all to confirm Gorsuch, what are you talking about?

Personally, I think the nuclear option should happen at the next SOTU.

The Republicans aren't beating people at rallies......the democrats are vile and disgusting.....spying on their political opponents...using the IRS against their political opponents....they are truly vile human beings....

We are a disgrace? Have you forgotten Obamas nominee who you refused to vote on? Or how about trying so hard to disruptpt the Obama agenda to make him a 1 term president

Repubs are vicious and evil. So they deserve it. ;)

I guess there is a big difference between a federal judge and SC nominee. Speaking of Federal judges, do you know how many of Obamas nominees republicans refused to vote on?

allowing the next president to pick the SC nominee was the right thing to do. Would you be complaining if Clinton had won and nominated Gorsuch?

Is there a dem/lib movement to make Trump a one term president? to impeach him? Wake the fuck up and look in the mirror.

no, please tell us. I would assume that they were far left advocates of judicial legislation.

Why was allowing the next president the right thing to do?
Trump is making himself a one term president, if he lasts that long, all by himself

Assume nothing, jackass. There were about 50 judicial openings when Obama took office, now there are about 110. When the republicans took control of the senate, they refused to vote on post every nomination
