More than half the folks in gitmo have been cleared of any wrongdoing. They should be released and compensated. The others should be given trials in US courts. It's a mockery of our justice system that gitmo even exists. It's a cynical endrun around tbe constitution and geneva.
Without trials how have they been cleared? And if they have been cleared why are so many of them refused reentry into their home country?
No matter what we've got a mess on our hands.
they were not tried becuase their was no need to try them for anything.
NO EVIDENCE they did anything wrong.
Would you take a person that AQ had controled for 10 years?
Yes its a mess thank the republicans
EXCLUSIVE: Guantánamo Scandal: The 40 Prisoners Still Held But Cleared for Release At Least Five Years Ago - Articles - Welcome to "Close Guantánamo"
One of the greatest injustices at Guantánamo is that, of the 169 prisoners still held, over half -- 87 in total -- were cleared for release by President Obama's interagency Guantánamo Review Task Force. The Task Force involved around 60 career officials from various government departments and the intelligence agencies, who spent the first year of the Obama Presidency reviewing the cases of all the remaining prisoners in Guantánamo, to decide whether they should be tried, released, or, in some cases, held indefinitely without charge or trial. The Task Force's final report is here (PDF).
If we allow them to die, we turn them into martyrs for the cause. Yet another reason Gitmo should be closed.
These terrorists claim that force feeding is a form of torture. The UN says that it's a form of torture.
UN calls force-feeding at Guantanamo 'torture' - GUANTANAMO BAY - FRANCE 24
These terrorists moan and groan that they are being allowed to voluntarily starve themselves to death, but would complain more if they were force fed. What they want is all their demands met, after which they will make new demands because the threat of self-starvation will be made again.
Let them die, like the British did to the IRA terrorists and it will stop.
One of the things about force feeding them is it is unethical in the medical profession. A patient has the right to refuse treatment.
So, this whole situation is a mess with no easy answers.
I will say it is against the core values of this country and against the human rights practices we stand for and against the Geneva Convention to hold them indefinitely without trial. We need to charge them or release them. We know who they are and it isn't like they will be free to do as they wish.
Should we be force feeding gitmo prisoners?
