Your question aside, I haven't thought of The Smothers Brothers in years. I was young and did not realize they were censored off the air. They were funny and it was a good show. Nice to know Tom and Dick are still alive, and 83 and 81 respectively.

Yes, the American Civil Liberties Union (of which I was long a member) used to be (no more, sadly) a champion of free expression.

I am also old enough to remember when Ed Sullivan (remember him?) would not allow the cameras on his TV program to show Elvis gyrating below the waist!
