Speculation has him possibly headed to Russia, then maybe Iceland? Or maybe Cuba?

There are also articles stating wikileaks has helped him get out.

The US had made firm instructions to Hong Kong to cooperate with the US in extraditing Snowden back to the US.
A senior administration official issued a pointed warning that if Hong Kong doesn’t act soon “it will complicate our bilateral relations and raise questions about Hong Kong’s commitment to the rule of law.”
Wonder how that will effect Hong Kong/US relationships now?

Will be interesting to follow where this goes.

Gee, I guess Obama really pissed Putin off at the G8.

CBC is reporting that Moscow is the probable temporary destination.

There went those great relations Obama and Kerry have built with Moscow.

I think Hong Kong made it very clear they wanted to know more about the US hacking of Hong Kong's computer systems.

The Hong Kong government said Snowden left "on his own accord for a third country through a lawful and normal channel."

It acknowledged the U.S. extradition request, but said U.S. documentation did "fully comply with the legal requirements under Hong Kong law."

It said additional information was requested from Washington, but since the Hong Kong government "has yet to have sufficient information to process the request for provisional warrant of arrest, there is no legal basis to restrict Mr. Snowden from leaving Hong Kong."

The statement said Hong Kong had informed the U.S. of Snowden's departure. It added that it wanted more information about alleged hacking of computer systems in Hong Kong by U.S. government agencies which Snowden had revealed.

Although everyone and their mother in the Obama Administration was running around touting a US - Hong Kong extradition treaty, they forgot this little part apparently and Hong Kong was not about to be bullied into turning Snowden over.

Hong Kong has an extradition treaty with the U.S., but the document has some exceptions, including for crimes deemed political.

Interesting, to say the least. I wonder if China also has a hand in this somewhere as well.

Hadn't seen that. Yeah, definitely can feel the love. :eusa_whistle:

Personally, if ever there was proof that relations between different powers can't be compatible for world peace this is it. I hope those singing kumbaya understand that now.

Snowden leaves Hong Kong for "democratic nation" - WikiLeaks
Reuters – 5 mins ago

LONDON (Reuters) - Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong and is heading for an unnamed "democratic nation" via Moscow, WikiLeaks said on Sunday.

The anti-secrecy group said Snowden had asked it for "legal expertise and experience to secure his safety" after the United States sought his extradition to face charges relating to his unauthorised release of secret details about U.S. surveillance programmes.

WikiLeaks said Snowden had left Hong Kong legally and was heading for an unnamed country, using a safe route "for the purposes of asylum".

He is being escorted by diplomats and legal advisers from WikiLeaks, the group said in a statement. He is due to land in Moscow later on Sunday, it added in an update on Twitter.

Maybe Putin will do to Snowden what he did for Gerard Depardieu, meet him at the airport with his Russian passport and citizenship papers.
