Snowden vs. Manning.

If Snowden divulged secret information he deserves to go to jail

Yup, I am sure he signed the papers required and agreed to do his job and I am willing to bet it wasn't to out - anything.

I am somewhat sympathetic to the comment Missourian made ala manning dumped profligately and with no thought as to what he dumped and snowden just dumped the existence of a 'program'........but, in the end we really cannot forgive on or the other, they broke their agreements, they are both guilty, period.

Manning revealed military secrets. Snowden revealed that the government considers the american public as a hostile force.

Understood.

Still, I'm with the system breakers. No interest in incremental fixes at this point, although it'd be interesting to see some group attempt incremental fixes.

Until then my support is against the government and for the people.

You are such a phony. A man who spews the "c" word at women is a misogynist who is anti at least half of the population.

How about applying that same concern to IRS employees who divulged confidential tax records and the person in the Obama Administration (Panetta) who leaked the Seal Team Six details?

Can you show where any of that was classified information?

thats bullshit semantics, they broke the law, they gave out confidential information....

Both betrayed the trust of the government while working in some very sensitive areas. Both put on display how really seriously the government has hid information about what they are up.

One, conservatives wanted to see put to death.
One, conservatives hail as a hero.

One, stayed in their country to face the music.
One, fled.

Manning committed treason, his disclosures cost lives and gave aid and comfort to our enemies. Snowden did not commit treason, he broke the law and if the Government agrees he should be tried for his crimes. Nothing he disclosed aided or abetted our enemies.

I can see a jackass.

Don't be mean to jackasses! They are far superior lifeforms compared to Dugdunce.

Why I view Snowden worse than Manning:

Manning had a "troubled" past, as can be seen even in the Wikipedia link below. It seems he should have NEVER been given a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance and/or allowed access to any classified information. Manning's superiors knew he had problems, but allowed him the clearance anyway. Also, as I understand, Julian Assange / Wikileaks acted as a buffer and made considerable effort to "filter" Manning's classified information before being released to the public. If true, I give Julian Assange much credit for that.

Snowden, on the other hand, apparently has no history of a "troubled" past, and was apparently driven by ideology - possibly libertarian ideology. Snowden acted with a sane/cool head, and is also apparently much less naive than Manning. Snowden seemingly understood the full weight of what he was doing.

The top-secret ‘Q Group’ has been chasing Edward Snowden since he disappeared in May. Eli Lake on the intel community’s internal police—and why the agency is in ‘complete freakout mode.’

The impact of the leak inside the NSA has been enormous. “There is complete freakout mode at the agency right now,” one former intelligence officer tells The Daily Beast. “There has never been anything like this in terms of the speed of referral of a crime report to the Justice Department. Normally this kind of thing takes weeks and weeks.”

The former U.S. intelligence officers, though, compared Snowden with William Hamilton Martin and Bernon F. Mitchell, two NSA cryptologists who defected to the Soviet Union on June 25, 1960. Both held a press conference at the time where they disclosed U.S. spying programs from Moscow. An NSA assessment of that defection a few years later called it the worst intelligence breach in the history of the NSA—a mark that may have just been passed.

One actually revealed classified information.
One just revealed a process that was occurring without revealing classified information.

But yeah, yer generalizations were nice if yer goal is to be an accusatory partisan hack. :clap2:

That is why you view Snowden as worse.....No other reason.

Chapter, verse, game, set match...You are a progressive/socialist hack who hates libertarians....Period.

I think the main difference between the two - the only difference - is one learned from the mistakes of the other.

Both felt they were acting on strong moral principles.

Both betrayed information - one betrayed classified information, one betrayed Top Secret information.

One released information indiscrimminantly, one with more discrimmination.

Either both are heros or both are traiters.

Betraying a government which is in violation of The Constitution is a service to The People.

Sallow thinks it is a crime to reveal that the government is committing a crime against the American people.
Kinda makes me think that if Sallow's neighbor saw some jackass breaking into Sallow's house, Sallow would want his neighbor to STFU about it and not call the police.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations – the NSA.

In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions," but "I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant."
