A little talked about issue that raises extremely serious sovereignty concerns is the wording of the Oklahoma measure that prohibits state courts from considering, not only Sharia law, but also the law of other countries, states, and tribes. Courts have traditionally given tribal courts broad jurisdiction and resisted incursion because of the risk of violating treaties between the U.S. and what are considered to be sovereign nations. These concerns militate decisively in favor of striking down the Oklahoma law.
Except that some of those states are pushing sharia law: laws that are based on religious belief.

Do you people not realize that you're playing with fire? Banning sharia law specifically is the first step to banning any vaguely religious laws, as well as repealing laws against rape, forced marriages, murder, and theft, not to mention banning tax benefits associated with charitable contributions. Keep in mind that there are laws in the U.S. that are attributable directly to America's Christian heritage which ban, among other things, adultery, polygamy, murder, rape, and usury. Take into account the federal income tax beginning with a 10% bracket--the same percentage Christians are requested to tithe. And don't forget all the Christian monuments throughout the country--most especially the Supreme Court building, which has a frieze of Moses holding the Ten Commandments and an engraved depiction of those same Commandments on the doors to the Supreme Court's chambers.
This idea of establishing a freedom from religion in the U.S. is merely shifting from the popular Christianity to the unpopular Islam as a first step. Once Islam is thrown out, others will quickly follow. If you don't want laws passed that legalize child marriage, genital mutilation, and honor killings (none of which are authorized by the Qur'an, by the way), here's a novel idea: Don't elect a bunch of foreign-born durka-durkas to office so they can't pass those laws. This anti-sharia movement is setting up the entire religious population of America, along with the First Amendment, up for a massive defeat.

British equality law is more comprehensive in scope and remedies than any elsewhere in the world. Instead of protecting it, The Law Society seems determined to sacrifice the progress made in the last 500 years.

But to have an organisation such as The Law Society seeming to promote or encourage a policy which is inherently gender discriminatory in a way which will have very serious implications for women and possibly for children is a matter of deep concern.

In their bid to court the Islamic extremist vote, democrats will oppose any effort to ban Sharia law in States. President Obama will fly to Michigan to make a speech.
