The penalties for illegal voting are very high. If you are illegal and get caught, you will be deported. Why would anyone take the risk just to cast one vote among tens of millions?

Because it's difficult to catch such vote fraud. We don't have to increase the penalties, we have to make it easier to catch the fraud and prevent it in the first place.

It is not that difficult to catch and once you have voted, you are not home free
If you voted and it subsequently turns out you were illegal....is it worth the risk of jail or deportation?

Voting is a small act and an individual has little impact on the ultimate results. To risk jail for a measly vote is not a wise move

What is WRONG with voter ID if it is affordable and accessible? Why not ask for proof of citizenship when giving a driver's license or state ID and using that?
I don't doubt that illegals are voting in our elections. It doesn't keep me awake nights, but it would be fairly simple to stop and I don't see why the left is so resistant to it.

The problem is the correct photo ID are not that accessible for people that currently don't have one. Voters here in PA must show ID the first time they vote - this ID does not need to be a photo ID.

Republicans pass photo ID voting requirements but do nothing to make these ID's easier to get.

The fact is that Republicans know that the number of Democrat voters in the group of eligible voters without a photo ID is disproportionately high. They know by erecting this hurdle, not all will cross it thereby gaining an advantage
