And yes, he is a freak:

"Whurley once said, 'We're not building a company--we're building a cult,'"

Whurley's "vigilante justice" was making a computer program which responds to someone hacking home computers and or government computer by slowing "flooding the attacking computers with data, rendering them Internet-blind, and other measures to neutralize the problem".

Oh the horrors!

LOL

Yup, by making apps for Sesame Street's "The Monster At the End of this Book" and many other game apps, reading apps where he combines non-profits and for profit making a "community of companies" which "will foster a community of developers who will turn Austin into a mobile industry hub, Benefiting many.

In the past year, Hurley said his company has created from 70 to 100 mobile apps, including an interactive iPad version of "Sesame Street's" beloved "The Monster at the End of This Book.

Hurley, who co-founded the nonprofit iPhoneDevCamp for mobile programmers, and his partners were already tech vets who immediately attracted attention.
That was evident from the get-go — Chaotic Moon's launch party was sponsored by Intel, Microsoft and others.

Hurley compared it to climbing into a space shuttle.

"And once they'd ignited it, there's a certain point at the launch where you just can't go back," he said. "So we've just been trying to keep up with it."
The ultimate goal, he said, is to build a billion-dollar, self-funded company that will take over the mobile space.

Beyond that, Hurley talked of creating a different kind of company — one that works extraordinarily closely with customers and creates lasting relationships.
Hurley, a champion of open-source development, also wants Chaotic Moon to help foster a community of developers who will turn Austin into a mobile industry hub.

"We're not building a company; we're building a cult," he said. "And those are different."

So he built a drone and exhibited it to government contractors to show what governments might start doing with drones?

:cuckoo:

I did not know SXSW was a government agency or government contractors... I thought it was a music festival which has morphed into including innovative startup companies.

Because they allowed "Code for America" to rent a booth, does not make it a "government run" music and innovation festival. It's not. lol. Did you read your link by chance?

This year the festival hosts an entire theme on "Government and Civic Engagement" with 29 distinct events on the topic with Code for America participating in many of them.

Dubbed the "Peace Corps for geeks," the Code for America Fellowship pairs developers and designers who are passionate about using their skills to give back with local governments. Through this fulltime, year long service program, fellows collaborate with civic leaders to develop and implement apps, which explore new approaches to local challenges. Fellows work in small 23 person teams in a fast-paced, startup-style environment, based primarily out of Code for America's San Francisco office.

SXSW is a music festival which morphed into hosting young and upcoming innovators. That year they hosted a theme for computer geeks to come up with apps which could benefit community. "Code for America is pairing savvy technologists with cities that might be having a difficult time breaking into the Information Age due to poverty".

Did you know it's founder is now working at the White House to further develop her Code for America program to help poor families learn how to code and use computers?

Unveiled in Austin (of course) was a drone that can deliver an 80,000 volt taser. The company (had to be a non-union shop) used an intern that was likely unpaid as the target of the affection of the CUPID (Chaotic Unmanned Personnel Intercept Drone).

I do like how they gave Timmy a helmet. You wouldn't want him getting hurt.

Why would you try so hard to make a story like this into some kind of 'anti-Texas' thing? What the hell?

I never said that SXSW was 'government run." I said that whurley built a drone and exhibited it for government contractors, which he did.

You are conflating Texas, Austin, SXSW, The technology expo at SXSW and an exibitor at the technology expo...

That is like crapping on a state, city, circus, midway carnival...for the toothless carny that jipped you.

Seriously?

Your claims mean if an American soldier attended the show and walked by the drone booth, such means Whurley was exhibiting for the government.

BTW The article you supplied showed Code for America was at SXSW LAST YEAR (2013) The drone was exhibited for this years 2014 festival, NOT last years.
