Ted Cruz: Man of Principle

It was a great show then, because Cruz now has eggs all over his face.

He stole the show and the next day's news cycle from Trump's VP pick who spoke the same night. I was talking to my sister about it the next day. She said, "I heard Cruz didn't endorse him." When I told her he stole the spotlight from Trump's VP pick she responded, "Trump picked his VP?"
He didn't steal anything. But he did fuck his own chances in the future. That part, I am loving.

Not if Trump loses as badly as I think he will. Even if Trump were to win, Cruz would probably be in a good position to attempt to rescue the GOP brand after the inevitable catastrophic Trump failure.

One of Cruz's biggest headline receiving quotes was "vote your conscience". Be honest, as a friend. Without looking it up can you quote a SINGLE thing Pence said that night? I honestly forgot he was speaking. Now contrast that to the GOP's roll out of someone like Palin. It SUCKED.

No that is what the far left media wanted to report on, so drones like you would think as such!

Keep blaming the media. It's all any outlet was reporting the next day, and to this day Trump supporters on USMB are creating threads about it. In fact you're in one.

Again the far left media focused on it, just like they will ignore similar things at the DNC convention.

But as the drones prove they have no independence of thought..

You should say far left drone again. Even your own people don't think you're enough of a hack yet.

If somehow Trump wins, and somehow isn't a staggering failure, then Ted Cruz's career is over.

But otherwise, Trump will be like an albatross like the Iraq War is now - everyone's going to be wish they were Cruz and wish they could say "I never supported him".

No, not really. You'll have to forgive my sarcasm. I am openly attacking Cruz for his lack of class.

Ted Cruz made no bones about being a Christian. He made it a point to acknowledge God in front of the media and in the debates. That was all well and good. As I am myself a Christian, I was taught that some of the basic precepts of my faith include honesty, loyalty and forgiveness. And given those things I believe Cruz betrayed all of those precepts by his actions and comments yesterday and today.

First, Cruz's honesty. He took a pledge in front of a national audience during a debate on Fox News to support the GOP nominee, no matter who he was. But nearly a year later during the GOP convention last night, he chose to take face time instead of endorsing Donald Trump as the nominee, instead telling people to "vote their conscience." Well, Cruz showed how little of one he had by choosing not to keep his promise.

Next, his loyalty. Perhaps Cruz is unaware, but there is loyalty in unity. He disregarded his loyalty to not only his party and the delegates bound to him, but to the people who voted for him, by refusing to endorse Donald Trump. He should have put aside his differences for the sake of unity.

Next, we examine his capacity for forgiveness. This is the toughest one to critique, because forgiving someone can be easy, or it can be a herculean undertaking. And continuing in the context of the Christian faith, Jesus said to forgive infinitely. Cruz believes that Trump attacked his wife and father on the campaign trail, and I condemn such behavior. I hope someday Trump apologizes. But I also believe in concept of forgiveness in the absence of apology. I don't make a habit of holding grudges or keeping enemies. For someone like Cruz, who believes in God and proclaims to live in his word, forgiveness should have come easier, but it didn't. He chose not to exercise it.

Cruz is a nice guy, and I won't impugn on his character overall for what he did last night. But what he did was overtly childish and lacked any class whatsoever. He lied to his voters, abandoned his loyalty to them and refused to forgive a former political opponent for the sake of moving forward. I'm not a perfect Christian, because I've sinned as well. I'm not casting any stones, either, but that's not what a Christian is supposed to do. That's not what a self proclaimed man of principle is supposed to do.

Well here is my opinion and that is Donald John Trump should be thankful Ted Cruz did not endorse Gary Johnson instead of just saying look at the ballot and vote for the best choice.

The reality is you can turn your damn cheek so many times before telling Trump to eat shit and die.

It is true that Cruz made the pledge but that all changed after Trump started his attacks on Cruz family and let be really honest a real man would never endorse another man that insulted your wife and family.

Maybe you are alright with the Anchor Baby comments and Trump comment about Heidi Cruz but a real man would have knocked Trump on his pathetic ass...

So Trump should be thankful for the mild speech that Cruz gave because a real man would have whipped Trump ass!

See how the far left loves to divide people!

Yes they can not admit when they are caught in a lie, so they use these tactics to deflect from the fact they have no independence of thought!

Ted Cruz has positioned himself perfectly as the leader of the anti-Trump wing of the Republican Party, which will grow in time, and if Trump is elected and acts batshit crazy as I expect him to, Cruz will be vindicated as right all along and all the Republicans who supported Trump will be discredited.

Any man that would let another man insult his wife, call him a liar a thousand times over, and then attack his father, and then be expected to get up and endorse the baboon that said it all--would not be a man.

Ted Cruz while I never supported him, showed a lot of strength & character by not endorsing Donald Trump, and saying what he said.

Unlike a few of the others that have cow toed to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz didn't. And that's something he & his family can be proud of.

Donald Trump knew in advance what Ted Cruz was going to say. I'll bet he thought it would make his poll numbers & his popularity go up. As in the past that has been the outcome of Republican attacks on him. But I don't think we'll see that in this instance, I think this was the final straw for Donald Trump. Ted Cruz supporters which are about 1/3 of the party won't be voting for Donald Trump.

Also, Trump said Cruz' father was involved with the JFK assassination. Why should Cruz forgive a man who says something like that? And why is the Republican Party nominating Trump after saying something so completely insane?

Let's not forget that he sent a team of investigators to Hawaii years ago to investigate Obama's citizenship, claimed he would produce damning evidence, and produced a new season of Apprentice instead. There's no way he's only doing this to endorse himself. When has he ever done that?

Yanno, Trump didn't have to invite him to speak at all. Oh wait...

Trump knew Cruz wasn't endorsing him. They had spoken about it a couple nights before. It was all about putting on a show.

It was grand theater to be certain. All the way down to the whole family being scripted on how to respond to Cruz's speech. And how to turn the tables on the arrogant jerk.

Team Cruz were no angels. Don't hand me this shit that Trump was the only one dishing it out. And Cruz's people went after everyone from Carson to Rubio to even Melania.

With lies. Big lies.

You know the insult to Heidi, a retweet of a bad picture, doesn't even freaking compare to a political attack on Melania to garner support with Mormons and evangelicals.
Calling her GQ spread a lesbian soft porn shoot was beyond the pale.

Cruz and his people really crawled into the gutter big time with all their shenanigans.

Yep...he should just follow the herd....that's what belonging to a party really means.

Trump said Cruz's father killed JFK. You wouldn't understand why that is so insulting. But take my word for it. It is.

He said that? Link?

Was it the first or the second Primary Debate where Trump was the only one that refused to pledge his support for the eventual nominee...or even to rule out running as a third party candidate?

Where's his integrity?

That would be 'independence of thought' like...oooohhh, I dunno...refusing to endorse a candidate you don't believe would make a good president?
That seems pretty independent.

Mustn't break ranks and disagree with The Party...that shows lack of integrity.
Integrity means marching in lock-step with The Party.

He didn't break ranks with the party, he broke ranks with the dump and his dumpsters. After today I may well sit this one out.
