We’ve all heard or read of insane judicial decisions but this has to be one of the worst. There is no way this kid is likely to earn a tiny percent of that in his entire lifetime.

And here’s the worst part of it. The kid knows just how insane it is and is probably chuckling inside to know he actually got away without any real punishment for what he did. 5 years probably? So what.

The payments can be waived after a decade if the teenager serves out his five-year probation sentence and commits no further crimes.

And what happens if he commits another crime? They going to take all of his earnings for the rest of his life? Easy for him to fix. Just don’t work and live on welfare.

He didn't commit a crime ..He was a kid who set off fireworks and accidentally torched the gargantuan fire load our government forest mismanagers left there. The USFS torches millions of acres every year..destroys crops, livestock, animals, kills people....and they do so with impunity and call it *healthy*. But let someone else start a fire and all hell breaks loose.

These jackasses create a fire hazard intentionally. If a kid torches it..it's arson. If a rancher torches it, it's terrorism. But if the government torches it...why it's science.

He set off fireworks. He caused the fire. He owes for the damage. Simple.

Too bad our legal system doesn't allow flogging as a punishment. ....
Flog the worthless USFS and ODFW *agents* who mismanage our public lands leaving them vulnerable. If you have a huge fireload, it's going to burn. And they know that. They also know that people die in fires every year..they don't care.

while the teens that set the fire in gatlinburg walked free
We stayed in the Park Vista a week before the fires. It's the only hotel in Gatlinburg on top of a mountain. I talked to a city councilman 6 months later and he said no more hotels or buildings on the mountains, mainly because of fires.

no it should not be...gossip always said they were related to people who could protect them.....i never believed it then they walked free just like the word on the street said...you mother will lie to you and your lover will lie to you but word on the street rarely lies
