It has been a long time coming

According to the APA, a strong and passionate belief in a deity or higher power, to the point where it impairs one’s ability to make conscientious decisions about common sense matters, will now be classified as a mental illness.

The controversial ruling comes after a 5-year study by the APA showed devoutly religious people often suffered from anxiety, emotional distress, hallucinations, and paranoia. The study stated that those who perceived God as punitive was directly related to their poorer health, while those who viewed God as benevolent did not suffer as many mental problems. The religious views of both groups often resulted in them being disconnected from reality.

Dr. Lillian Andrews, professor of psychology, stated, “Every year thousands of people die after refusing life-saving treatment on religious grounds. Even when being told ‘you will die without this treatment’ patients reject the idea and believe that their God will still save them. Those lives could be saved simply by classifying those people as mentally unfit for decision making.”

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

If your will includes refusing life-saving blood transfusions, as the article mentions of JWs, screw your will.

So what position does that pit my DNR and Living Will in, considering they both REQUIRE facilities to allow me to die rather than accepting services under certain conditions?

If this is allowed to stand, how much longer before any form of non/anti-Liberal thought is considered "mental illness".

Read my 'religious & conservatives...dumber' thread in Health. You'll be happy. Something about liberalism in there not being in sync with human nature and survival. :)

Reality is not easy to define, and I personally do not want my fate decided by some atheist with no imagination.

Can you link the August article the they APA actually classifies this?

There are 3 stages to Communism overtaking a nation and targeting Christians. We've already seen stage one and stage two is in process (demonization of Christianity) and the third stage will happen suddenly (as it has happened elsewhere such as Romania when it was taken over by Communism) they will criminalize Christianity and you'll see them use these excuses to arrest Christians or put us away - this is goal.

Interesting, so if all religion was banned in the United States you would be okay with it?

I guess this means the US has to quit doing business with Iran and Israel, they are both mentally ill.

And homosexuality was a mental illness. Which ever way the wind blows is where the APA is at, it's mostly political.

A good percentage of psychiatrists, therapists and psychologists don't even take it that seriously anymore. It's just some literature and an excuse to prescribe drugs for big pharma. After all, one could hypothesize that this organization is indirectly responsible for all the mass shootings. It's certainly more culpable than the NRA.

Sorry, but I have to put this bluntly ...
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Psychologists, members of the org referenced in this OP, do not prescribe drugs. Further, unlike psychiatrists, psychologists are often not clinicians and don't use the "medical model".
Many are academic research oriented professionals.

Nice try. Although the Nerd article sounds plausible, and I agree with its premise, it was humor. The APA did not make that "classification".
Check out Snopes.com:

While the above-quoted article was written in a fashion similar to an authentic news story, it was just another piece of fake news from the satirical News Nerd web site:

The stories posted on TheNewsNerd are for entertainment purposes only. The stories may mimic articles found in the headlines, but rest assured they are purely satirical.
