Yeah, whenever you hear the nutters trying to push their Voucher Scam, it always sounds nice, but it's really the camel's nose under the tent to destroy public education.

Wisconsin has a voucher program, and it was pretty much a miserable failure.

Wisconsin taxpayers have paid about $139 million to private schools that ended up being barred from the state's voucher system for failing to meet requirements since 2004, according to a newspaper report.

State Department of Public Instruction data shows more than two-thirds of the 50 schools terminated from the state's voucher system in the last 10 years had stayed open for five years or less, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. They were all in Milwaukee.

Eleven schools, paid a total of $4.1 million, were terminated from the voucher program after just one year.

Well, no, they weren't. Obviously whatever home school you went to didn't cover reading comprehension. These schools received millions of dollars even though they failed. The more important issue is, only about 25,000 students found their way into voucher programs out of hundreds of thousands. Then you have Klan affiliated schools getting money.

This prompted congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI) to ask for an independent federal probe into "alarming allegations of potentially discriminatory practices" within the schools enrolled in the program.

As the schools are exempt from most state regulations, they have no obligation to provide a comprehensive education—much less a secular one. Carter’s Academy in Milwaukee, for example, uses the K-12 curriculum designed by fundamentalist Christian publisher A Beka Books, which is notorious for homophobic lesson plans on the “gay lobby” and for portraying the Ku Klux Klan in a positive light.
