The ‘dark side’ of capitalism

Except it isnt, and he's not.
The Church represents Catholics. That includes rich ones, who have made the Church the wealthy org it is today.
The poor are made poorer by socialism, not richer. They are made richer by capitalism. The Pope doesnt seem to understand this. Neither do you.

Sorry, man, I've seen 30 years of the wonderful middle class my parents enjoyed vanishing while the 1%ers have more money than God.

Even the Pope is noticing.
Maybe you should get off your ass?

"No one is so stubborn and dangerous as the beneficiaries of a fallen idea - they defend not the idea, but their bare life and the loot."
Sándor Márai

Interesting that when the Pope speaks out against abortion and birth control he is out of touch and irrelevant. But when he bashes the one system that has improved people's lives more than the church ever did he is held up like a hero.
Libs are hypocrites.

Why do conservatives give so much to their churches then?

And what is hypocritical about agreeing with someone on one issue and disagreeing with them on another wholly separate issue?

The ‘dark side’ of capitalism: The Pope highlights how the rich have exploited the poor

Pope Francis has emerged as one of the most important voices on the global stage about the need for a stronger moral dimension in economic policies. This has caused some upset in business and financial circles.

Prominent US political commentator Keith Farrell responded by accusing Pope Francisof being overly influenced by Marxist ideas that “the rich have only gotten rich at the expense of the poor”.

Farrell argues that “the inequality gap simply doesn’t matter”. He wrote that “capitalism has produced unrivalled economic growth” and is “chiefly responsible for halving of world poverty rates over the past 20 years”.

Since many evangelicals have forgotten that the Catholic church gave them the bible, the far-right "Christians" will ignore real Christian teachings.

As if the church doesn't exploit the poor.

I recently came across this brilliant, scathing satirical piece from the 19th century, from a reformer named Samuel Smiles.

It is a brutal rebuke of laissez-faire capitalism, personified as a person named 'Nobody':

When typhus or cholera breaks out, they tell us that Nobody is to blame. That terrible Nobody! How much he has to answer for.

More mischief is done by Nobody than by all the world besides. Nobody adulterates our food. Nobody poisons us with bad drink. Nobody supplies us with foul water. Nobody spreads fever in blind alleys and unswept lanes. Nobody leaves towns undrained.

Nobody fills gaols, penitentiaries, and convict stations. Nobody makes poachers, thieves, and drunkards. Nobody has a theory too—a dreadful theory.

It is embodied in two words—Laissez faire—Let alone. When people are poisoned by plaster of Paris mixed with flour, "Let alone" is the remedy. When Cocculus indicus is used instead of hops, and men die prematurely, it is easy to say,

"Nobody did it."

Let those who can, find out when they are cheated: Caveat emptor. When people live in foul dwellings, let them alone. Let wretchedness do its work; do not interfere with death.[8]

The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have as much.' "

Horseshit.

The one thing that bugs capitalists is that there's a union guy out there who is still pulling down a middle class salary.

class envy and jealousy, joe...you're reliable and predictable.

Why not address my point. If capitalists want us all to be rich, why do they spend so much time undermining unions, which have done more to build a middle class than anything else.

The question is based in ignorance...no surprise there...

Of course capitalists (those who own and head businesses) disapprove of unionization. Are you so dumb that I must tell you why?

The problem with unions is they have become political organizations tied directly to the socialist party. If they would stick to promoting the interests of employees, rather than the interests of the socialist party, they would do much better.

I know exactly why they oppose unionization.

Give money to people who did the work. THat's crazy talk.

How about an economic system that works for everyone and not just the business owners?
