On TV you might experience fake news about the war. It will be about the young and the old forced to the front lines. But what could they achieve? Nothing.
In the real world the last phase of the war was the most intense and bloody one. The allies ran against the German positions without regard to losses.

The extreme battles resulted in high losses on both sides.

From 1th to 18th April 1945 the allies´ tank losses amount to at least 2807 in the east and at least 1079 in the west. These numbers might be incomplete and the Italian front is not included. But these numbers mean that 215 allied tanks were destroyed each day.

War is hell. As my grandpa toldme, "those who love war have never fought in one". Hence the Cheneys and Boltons of the world. I'm no tree hugger, but we should all at least strive for peace where possible. the aggressors should also accept defeat and surrender when it is clear the end is near. How many died needlessly when it was clear that Germany was finished but didnt have the character to surrender?

Of the greatest importance is the fact that America wanted the Soviet Union to face Germany alone and that resulted in many more times the casualties of the US.

America had become the enemy of the S.U. before Barbarossa.

The Germans had in mind that a defeat in the war equals the end of Germany. As we can see today, this was a correct assessment.

The victors write the history books. The legendary "Battle of the Bulge" late in the War goes down in propaganda history as a victory for the allies but it was the worst intelligence disaster and failure in modern history. Army Generals like McAuliffe were quoted for saying "nuts" to a German request for surrender but we forget that general McAuliffe and his men were surrounded by Germans because of their own negligence. Ike was attending Christmas parties and the American Troops thought they would be home for Christmas. Ike should have been relieved of duty and sent home but FDR didn't have anyone else. The loss of 20,000 American KIA and 20,000 MIA and 45,000 American Troops wounded was on Ike's head but the media proclaimed it as a victory so nobody but the widows and orphans of American Troops noticed.
