I think there are multiple reasons why she lost. First - it's not uncommon for the opposing party to win after a two term president. That typically happens. Second - her personality. She's great on the facts, policy, data but she doesn't give people the warm fuzzies. I don't happen to think she's the personification of evil that many rightwingers do - but she lacks the ability to emotionally connect with many Americans. That has no affect on whether she would be a good president or not, but effects her electability. I also think that the DNC hacks and leaks doubled down on that aspect as well as the way she handled her email controversy (she should have just come clean right off and apologized for it as an error of judgement). All that together promoted a general distrust. The last aspect is the DNC in general. They've lost touch and they've taken too much for granted including a sense of entitlement, for certain groups of supporters, that they haven't actually worked for in years.

All of those reasons combined for a loss.
