Republicans are trying to smear Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over her emails and the Benghazi attack. And yet nothing criminal or new had been found, either through her emails or the Benghazi attack.

Let's just set the record straight about the Republicans' record for both "lost" emails and embassy attacks under the Bush-Cheney administration.

There may have been more than 5 million emails lost in that era, which is a possible violation of the Hatch Act and the Presidential Records Act of 1978.

Were any of them classified? Who knows? When Chairman Henry Waxman of the Oversight and Government Reforms Committee asked for those emails, he was told they had been erased and unavailable to congressional investigators.

There were also 13 different attacks on embassies and consulates under the Bush Administration, killing more than 60 people. The first of which was Jan. 22, 2002, in Calcutta, India, where five people were killed. The last was Sept. 17, 2008, in Sana'a, Yemen, where 16 people were killed, including two Americans.

Where were all the inquiries and hearings from Congress for the millions of lost emails and for the killing of more than 60 individuals in 13 different attacks on embassies or consulates under the Bush Administration.

A Clinton friend from Arkansas and former law partner of Mrs. Clinton (not to mention Chelsea's bio daddy), Hubbell held the number three job in the Justice Department when the Whitewater probe began. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 6, 1994, to mail fraud and tax evasion and admitted stealing almost $400,000 from his clients and partners in Little Rock's Rose Law Firm. He was sentenced to 21 months in jail in a plea-bargain deal in which he agreed to cooperate with investigators. He has reportedly provided prosecutors with little information, while at the same time working at a variety of jobs obtained for him by friends of Mr. Clinton. This has led to accusations that Hubbell's silence was bought and to new indictments, announced April 30, accusing Hubell, his wife, his lawyer and his tax accountant of tax evasion. These have been dismisssed. But Hubbell was arraigned Nov. 23 on a third set of charges filed by Starr.

• James McDougal. A Clinton friend and Whitewater business partner, McDougal operated Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan. He was convicted in May 1996 of 18 felony counts related to bad loans made by Madison, which failed in the late 1980s at a considerable cost to taxpayers. McDougal agreed to cooperate with prosecutors against Mr. Clinton, but not until after his conviction. He died in prison in March.

• Susan McDougal. With her former husband, James, Mrs. McDougal was a partner in the Whitewater land deal and in Madison Guaranty. She was convicted in 1996 of four felony fraud counts. She now is serving a two-year sentence. Unlike her ex-husband, she refused to cooperate with the Whitewater prosecutors and was senteced to 18 months in jail on a civil contempt charge. She completed that jail term earlier this year, but still has refused to answer questions before a grand jury. On May 4, she was charged with criminal contempt and obstruction of justice.

I remember listening to some lib commentators who were amused at Slick Willy's lying ability. They seemed to think that lying so convincingly was an admirable trait. Seriously, the left even gushes over their ability to get away with shit.

No lib will even comment on the absolutely absurd explanations that they have come up with. When the missing Whitewater papers were discovered in the WH living quarters after they could no longer be used against the Clintons, they both claimed that they had no idea how they got there. They can claim that the butler did it and the left nods in agreement.
