Lawyers are pitching state attorneys general in 16 states with a radical idea: make the food industry pay for soaring obesity-related health care costs.

It’s a move straight from the playbook of the Big Tobacco takedown of the 1990s, which ended in a $246 billion settlement with 46 states, a ban on cigarette marketing to young people and the Food and Drug Administration stepping in to regulate.

This seems fair.

After all, these food companies are forcing people to eat bad food. The people who cram crap into their mouths are the victims here, and those evil corporations must pay. They're making us do it.

America, 2014, enjoy!

.

Well, they've come after your health care, so why not your food next

they can't find a better way to bring people to their knees so they (lawyers in government ) can take total control over you

If it weren't for lawyers, we wouldn't need lawyers.

Just another power grab by this administration.

Power and control, then swoop down upon the lions that didn't roar....

Well then you should be totally pissed at this!
We've been so snookered on ACA because we were told there were 46 million uninsured and we needed to get them covered so we could reduce health insurance costs..RIGHT?
A) This is just bassackwards!
90% of the people that know, say they send to their health insurance companies/Medicare bills for services of over $850 billion a year NEEDLESSLY!
Here don't take my word for it:
90% of physicians say they order $850 billion a year in wasted duplicate tests, referrals all out of FEAR of being SUED!
Physicians estimate the cost of defensive medicine in US at $650 to $850 billion per year
Health News Observer ? Physicians Estimate The Cost Of Defensive Medicine In Us At 650 To 850 Bill Articles

Again your attitude about lawyers right on target!

B) So ACA included a 10% tax on tanning salons as they cause cancer. OK sounds good!
Why not tax 10% of the $270 billion lawyers make BECAUSE THEY CAUSED $850 billion a year in duplicate tests, etc. according to the experts!!!

C) Then realizing that of the so-called 46 million uninsured that:
1) over 10 million according to the census figure that provided the 46 million uninsured... ARE NOT CITIZENS! So subtract 10 million from 46 million!
2) Census counted 14 million as uninsured BUT failed to recognize that under previous Medicaid regulations all this 14 million need do is register! Subtract another 14 million!
3) 18 million under 34 making over $50,000 don't use employers' health plans cause they spend $1,000 or less out of pocket.. but they are counted.. Subtract 18 million.

4 million people is all that are not able and want health insurance... NOT the bogus 46 million!

So taking the $27 billion in tax on lawyers and requiring any hospital that sees an uninsured person to send their claims of services to the insurance company managing these
4 million "uninsured' with the $27 billion, you reduce the FACT that Medicare KNOWS most hospitals "pad and pass" on uninsured costs.. Sometimes 6,000% markups!

With these three steps.. We've NOT destroyed health care as we know it!
We'll reduce the $850 billion of "defensive medicine" Costs.
And hospitals won't be padding and passing on sometimes 6,000% markups due to the "uninsured"!

This by far would have a greater IMPACT ON ALL our lives!

.

OH NO, ANOTHER VICTIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need to get rid of these frivolous lawsuits.
Maybe the best way would be Loser pays.

Tax lawyers! Tanning salons were taxed cause they cause cancer!
Drs. attest they don't get any benefit out of duplicate testing except safety from possibly being sued!
So tax lawyers with a declining rate based on declining $850 billion a year in defensive medicine costs!
Then you would BY STATES' laws see insurance companies premiums go down.
Again most people don't realize insurance companies pay these claims up to 80% of every insurance companies' premiums go out in claims.
So if the claims are reduced.. STATES" laws require ins. companies that sell in their state to justify premiums.
So if claims go down (defensive medicine reduces due to less fear of lawsuits) lower % being paid out.. STATES can then force companies to lower premiums!
Lower premiums means more people insured!
That simple...
It's we've attacked the wrong end of the problem as Congress/Govt. often does!
Reduce $850 billion a year in wasted defensive medicine claims.. reduces premiums, means more people insured means lower premiums!

Every time you say a stupid thing like this, God makes a new Democratic voter.

Obesity rates are highest in the deep-fried Southern Confederate racist Republican slave states, driving up health care costs for the rest of America.

Then its time the nation split which is what I've been saying all along. It's time for the nation to give up the fight and peaceably divide.
