The Rarest Of Virtues

The answer is here......for when you learn to read.

More books from religious bigots? No thanks.

To paraphrase George McGovern, I get tired of old men finding excuses for young men to die.

Because we needed to save Libya damn it!

I agree entirely. It was completely stupid of Obama to get us in the middle of Libya's civil war. This isn't a partisan issue, BOTH parties are equally guilty of this nonsense of letting the Zionists and Oil Companies dictate out policies.

4. “J.A.Williams makes a distinction between ‘revivalists’ whose aim is to help Muslims return to the fundamentals of Islamic faith and ‘radical activists’, who encourage a fight against infidels. It is more accurate to call radical activists, whose creed calls them to bring about revolution through violence, what they are – terrorists.

…we have to look to Saudi Arabia, the heartland of Islam, to trace one of the major sources of radical Islamic thought. Two hundred years ago a Reform movement had swept through Saudi Arabia through the teachings of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. Uniting with Muhammad Ibn Saud, a powerful chief, Mohammed ibn Abd al-Wahhab subdued other tribes and imposed what Prof. John Esposito has described ‘ a puritanical form of Islam’ on the people.

We should note that Wahhabi puritanism deemed it belonged to the purity of faith to destroy the sacred tombs of Mohammed and his companions in Mecca and Medina. Today, it is the Wahhabi form of Islam that is being exported to other countries and communities in Muslim lands. Its intolerant and tyrannical beliefs lend themselves to young impressionable minds searching for certainties."

Wahhab fundamentalism combined with the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia that made the global conflict possible.

Democrat Jimmy Carter, installing the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran was the catalyst.

Really excellent food for thought--thanks for sharing. From this Christian's perspective, it will be a tough uphill climb for Islam to live alongside the West IF they plan to truly engage or share the culture.

How those two ever peacefully coincide?

Here's how we peacefully co-exist with them. We don't invade their countries, we don't support a bunch of European Jews trying to colonize their land, we don't prop up one petty dictator after another to keep the oil flowing.

Here's how we get "Peace in our Time". We have mandatory draft of rich people's kids and politicians' kids. We put them in an Super Elite Airborne Unit that will be the first deployed to the region the next time we feel a bit of "Nation Building" coming on.

My guess, if they get sent instead of the poor working class kids looking for an education... we'd find ways to "peacefully coincide", also known as "Minding our own business."

Oh look!! Joe brought the stupid

Pew Global: 68% of Palestinian Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
43% of Nigerian Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
38% of Lebanese Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
15% of Egyptian Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
13% of Indonesian Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
12% of Jordanian Muslims say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.
7% of Muslim Israelis say suicide attacks against civilians in defense of Islam are justified.

Um, okay, so it shows that the more violence and oppression a people live with, the more likely they are to condone violence. This really isn't exclusive to ANY religion or group.

A poll taken of Americans after the Hiroshima bombing showed that not only did most Americans support it, 22% thought we should have kept bombing them with nukes before they had a chance to surrender.

When you hurt people, they want to hurt back... This is a very human reaction... something no doubt beyond your robotic programming.

You don't say what country these are from.. or the context. I'm going to assume that's "Kabul" and not "Cabul", and this was Afghanistan back before we and the Russians started fucking with it.

I knew Palestinian gals in the 1980's who dressed like that at UIC.

The ironic thing was, back in the 1980's, egged on the Zionists, we all complained that the verious ME governments that opposed us were all in with the Godless commies, which is why Good Old Ronnie Ray-gun decided to arm fundementalists who shared "our values".

1. If you haven't read it already, I recommend Chesler's book.

2. Phyllis Chesler has long been a heroine of mine, since I read her personal history in

3. "Phyllis Chesler ... psychotherapist, and professor emerita of psychology and women's studies at the College of Staten Island (CUNY). ... Chesler has written several works on such subjects as antisemitism, Islam, and honor killings. Chesler argues that many western intellectuals, including leftists and feminists, have abandoned Western values in the name of multicultural relativism, and that this has led to an alliance with Islamists, an increase in antisemitism, and to the abandonment of Muslim women and religious minorities in Muslim-majority countries." Phyllis Chesler - Wikipedia

4. Chesler is an expert on all things Muslim....as she has lived the experiences: "...she met Ali, a Westernized Muslim man from Afghanistan, the son of devout Muslim parents. They married in a civil ceremony in 1961 in New York State and settled in Kabul, in the large, polygamous household of her father-in-law. ... on arrival in Afghanistan.... authorities forced her to surrender her U.S. passport, and she ended up a virtual prisoner in her in-laws' house. Chesler describes this as how foreign wives were treated.[5] This phenomenon has been documented by others."
Ibid.

Chesler is one more recovering Liberal who was strong enough to have learned from her experiences in life.

5. In Afghanistan, she was silenced by the Muslim culture, and subject to 'purda'...
"Purdah,
... practice that was inaugurated by Muslims ... involves the seclusion of women from public observation by means of concealing clothing (including the veil) and by the use of high-walled enclosures, screens, and curtains within the home."
purdah | Islamic custom

Purdah is solitary confinement.....for life.

No shock under the Taliban.....but a lesson for all who believe that Muslims, if they gain the power, would allow the America we love.

Hey, here's a crazy idea.. let's stop arming people over that that eventually turn on us, like Saddam, Bin Laden and the Libyan Rebels...

Here's a book you should be afraid of, you dolt.

The following are direct quotes from the Quran and the Hadith:

Quran 4:89: "They (infidels) desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper."

Quran 8:12: "Instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers;"

Quran 2:191: "... kill the disbelievers wherever we find them

Quran 22:19-22: "… for them (the unbelievers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods."

Quran 8:12: "Your Lord inspired the angels with the message: 'I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers and toes.'"

Qur'an:8:12 "I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle."

Quran 8:7: "Allah wished to confirm the truth by His words: 'Wipe the infidels out to the last.'"

Quran 8:59: "The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them. They are your enemy and Allah's enemy."

Quran 8:60: "Prepare against them whatever arms and cavalry you can muster that you may strike terror in the enemies of Allah, and others besides them not known to you."

Quran 9.29" "Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."

Quran 47:4: "Strike off the heads of the disbelievers" and, after making a "wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives."

Hadith Sahih Muslim (41:6985): "Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: 'The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.'"

Quran 9:5: "When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, torture them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."

Sura 3:151: "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers for that they joined companions with Allah for which He had sent no authority: their abode will be the fire; and evil is the home of the wrong-doers!"

Sura 8:60: "Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power including steeds of war to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies of Allah and your enemies and others besides whom ye may not know but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah shall be repaid unto you and ye shall not be treated unjustly."

Tabari IX:113: "Allah permits you to shut them (women) in separate rooms and to beat them, but not severely. If they abstain, they have the right to food and clothing. Treat women well for they are like domestic animals and they possess nothing themselves. Allah has made the enjoyment of their bodies lawful in his Quran."

Tabari I:280: "Allah said, 'It is My obligation to make Eve bleed once every month as she made this tree bleed. I must also make Eve stupid, although I created her intelligent.' Because Allah afflicted Eve, all of the women of this world menstruate and are stupid."

Ishaq:327: "Allah said, 'A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.'"

These quotations are not out of context. They are representative of dozens and dozens of other messages in the Islamic "holy" texts. Clearly, they have inspired the violent and hateful behavior of followers.

Sword and Scimitar (post #6) is a take on Zizek's passages comparing Army and Church in The Fragile Absolute, p. 123. It is an "us vs. them" mentality. Or in Lacan: " a fight to the death for pure prestige." Yes, especially after the embarrassing year, 1967. Tara Westover's Educated is a book that moves along Reagan lines who have armed fundamentalist mentalities duped by the theologian or escape from these religious pathologies.

I am not aware of her I will put this on my Amazon list! She reminds me a bit of Ayaan Hirsi Ali...Leftists hate her.

I wonder if you have read much of Camille Paglia. She IS a feminist atheist and a lesbian, but a free thinker and wicked smart. She hates "third wave feminism" and what the Modern Left has become. Read below what she says about Islam and the West:

****

JVL: One of the other big news stories for the last few weeks has been terrorism in Great Britain. Everyone goes to great pains to say that this isn't "Islamic" terrorism, but rather "Islamist" ("Islam-ish?") terrorism. Does nomenclature matter here? Does the fact that Western liberalism gets so wrapped up in knots over how to talk about its antagonists mean anything?

CP: You've nailed it about Western liberalism's obsession with language, to the exclusion of wide-ranging study of world history or systematic observation of present social conditions. Liberalism of the 1950s and '60s exalted civil liberties, individualism, and dissident thought and speech. "Question authority" was our generational rubric when I was in college. But today's liberalism has become grotesquely mechanistic and authoritarian: It's all about reducing individuals to a group identity, defining that group in permanent victim terms, and denying others their democratic right to challenge that group and its ideology. Political correctness represents the fossilized institutionalization of once-vital revolutionary ideas, which have become mere rote formulas. It is repressively Stalinist, dependent on a labyrinthine, parasitic bureaucracy to enforce its empty dictates.

The reluctance or inability of Western liberals to candidly confront jihadism has been catastrophically counterproductive insofar as it has inspired an ongoing upsurge in right-wing politics in Europe and the United States. Citizens have an absolute right to demand basic security from their government. The contortions to which so many liberals resort to avoid connecting bombings, massacres, persecutions, and cultural vandalism to Islamic jihadism is remarkable, given their usual animosity to religion, above all Christianity. Some commentators have suggested a link to racial preconceptions: that is, Islam remains beyond criticism because it is largely a religion of non-whites whose two holy cities occupy territory once oppressed by Western imperialism.

For a quarter century, I have been calling for comparative religion to be made the core curriculum of higher education. (I am speaking as an atheist.) Knowledge of the great world religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Judeo-Christianity, Islam—is the true multiculturalism. Everyone should have a general familiarity with the beliefs, texts, rituals, art, and shrines of all the major religions. Only via a direct encounter with the Qu'ran and Hadith, for example, can anyone know what they say about jihad and how those strikingly numerous passages have been interpreted in different ways over time.

Camille Paglia: On Trump, Democrats, Transgenderism, and Islamist Terror

While gratitude is known as the most important of virtues, courage is the rarest.

1.One of the greatest of disappointments is the latest version of character of the British public. As noted by Melanie Phillips, none other than Sayed Qutb, a founder of violent Islamism, correctly criticizes British society, thus:

“…perception of Western decadence. British Muslims are overwhelmingly horrified and disgusted by the louche and dissolute behavior of a Britain that has torn up the notion of respectability. They observe the alcoholism, drug abuse and pornography, the breakdown of family life and the encouragement of promiscuity, and find themselves therefore in opposition to their host society's guiding values. What they are recoiling from, of course, is the breakdown of Western values. After a visit to the United States in 1948, Sayed Qutb wrote: "Humanity today is living in a large brothel!" Similarly, British Muslims have concluded that the society that expects them to identify with it is a moral cesspit. Is it any wonder, therefore, that they reject it?”

Muslims, therefore, have a religious duty to change Britain into an Islamic society.
And the British public, having abandoned their heritage, belief in their religion, and their backbone, are not willing to put up a strong resistance to same.

2. Well, not all Brits.

George Leonard Carey, Baron Carey of Clifton, the retired Anglican bishop who was the Archbishop of Canterbury, gave quite a speech on the subject of “Christianity and Islam,” "Christianity and Islam", Collision or Convergence - by George Carey | VirtueOnline – The Voice for Global Orthodox Anglicanism

“…wherever we look, Islam seems to be embroiled in conflict with other faiths and other cultures. It is in opposition to practically every other world religion- to Judaism in the Middle East; to Christianity in the West, in Nigeria, and in the Middle East; to Hinduism in India; to Buddhism, especially since the destruction of the Temples in Afghanistan.

We are presented therefore with a huge puzzle concerning Islam. Why is it associated with violence throughout the world?

Listen to Samuel Huntington, one of the most important voices in these matters in recent days. In 1993 he published a controversial essay entitled ‘The Clash of Civilisations’. His thesis was that the collapse of communism signalled the end of ideological battles of the political kind. Western capitalism was now dominant. The next battle he claimed will be the clash of cultures, with Islamic and Christian civilisations separating the world.

In 1997 he published a book of the same name, modifying the thesis but retaining the underlying argument that a clash between two great cultures was inevitable. In an extraordinary claim he insisted: “Islam’s borders are bloody and so are its innards. The fundamental problem for the West is not Islamic fundamentalism. It is Islam, a different civilisation whose people are convinced of the superiority of their culture and are obsessed with the inferiority of their power”.

What are the reasons for Islam’s association with terrorism and death?”

Is it possible for Islam to change?

Really excellent food for thought--thanks for sharing. From this Christian's perspective, it will be a tough uphill climb for Islam to live alongside the West IF they plan to truly engage or share the culture.

Islam is a religion of works. Not drinking, not smoking, being modest, praying five times a day, not eating or eating--this is basically the fundamentals of their religion. So when Muslims seek to export their religion they want to see others engage in these behaviors. Not so for Christians: we are a religion of belief, not works. Sure, we don't want to see people out fornicating, taking drugs and etc, but we generally leave the judgment to God (or think we should at any rate).

How those two ever peacefully coincide?

???
I would say both religions share another element that you did not mention.. both have followers that have their own personal beliefs and practices while respecting others people’s right to live how they want to live and both have followers that try and push their beliefs onto others while passing judgement on those that do not follow suit.

My personal observations have shown far more people falling in the first category for both religions.

2. Sure, Joe, it's our fault about the burkas....it's so sad to watch some adults get old but remain chronically idiotic.

Keep goin' Joe your next post will be how we deserved 9/11. Oh wait maybe you've already posted that and I just missed it.

NO, we didn't deserve it. Or at least the people killed that day didn't.

Our government most certainly caused it, without a doubt.

We armed Bin Laden. We created a small army of Angry Arab Men because our CIA didn't have anyone who spoke Pushtan or Tajik or Uzbek to try to recruit Afghans to fight the Soviets.

And when the Soviets left, that army of angry Arab men was still out there, their own countries didn't want them back.
