Yes. It appears there are many layers to this. Intimidating Pence into breaking the law. If that didn't work, cause a long enough delay to argue that debate has been neglected, therefore the certification cannot proceed. Delay the reinforcements accordingly. Immediately take time on the floor of Congress to blame it on Antifa (A very obviously coordinated effort at a ruse. Laughable as it was.)

Surely someone in the room was smart enough to puzzle out the possibility of, ya know, people being hurt or killed. Should we assume the stable genius was not one of these people? I think it is safe to assume that he was.

Worth noting:

Trump is not a very sharp man. When Trump was watching them storm the Capitol for 3+ hours (Paralyzed by disbelief and horror, if you ask Oddball ), he didn't see 2000 or 3000 people. He saw a million. A gazillion. If you had snapped at Trump to get his attention, and shown him what it would look like if only 3,000 people attended a football game or a WWE event, you might have been able to blunt the events of that day. He is like a child. Everyone knows this.

One "filter" for Trump is that it is of paramount importance to him that he outclass and outshine everyone at all times. He was embarrassed by them, for seeming so grimy. His unwashed masses.

He sent a very clear message to them that he gives no fucks about them.

He promised to march with them. He did not.

He made them feel as though the most powerful man in the world had their backs. He did not. He pardoned none of them.
