The Socialist Republic of California

Meanwhile, back in the real world, California is now running a large budget surplus.

A LARGE BUDGET SURPLUS POSES PROBLEMS FOR CALIFORNIA - Nation - The Boston Globe

That happened right after Democrats obtained supermajority status. It's not a coincidence.

i have already seen that debunked....its no where as large as they are saying it is....and this was on the Local news as well as a show on NPR radio with 4 Economists from the Cal State system......they claimed this while i was still delivering Mail....i delivered to some fairly large businesses who do lots of business in the State.....they felt that was fairly exaggerated.....there is a pickup in business but not as big as they claim...

California Senate Approves Background Checks, Permits and Fees for Ammunition Purchases

(CNSNews.com) –
The California Senate this week approved a collection of bills, including one (SB 53) that would require background checks, permits, and fees for the purchase of ammunition.

All ammunition sales would have to be face-to-face, happening only in the presence of a store clerk; and vendors selling the bullets would have to submit sales records to the California Department of Justice. Those vendors also would need a permit to sell ammunition.

Speaking as an independent voter. It is obvious after Sandy Hook that something needs to be done. Republicans offer nothing. I am really bored with this issue. At this point I want to see gun owners castrated just because they are stupidly avoiding a necessary solution to the problem with unrealistic rhetoric.

As a Californian my letter supporting the bill will go out to my State Rep today. Republicans had best come up with some practical solutions for gun violence. Next time around I will be supporting the elimination of all guns, just to piss off gun owners. This is where push comes to shove, NRA.

well you knew after the last shooting something was going to happen.....and if there is another in the next few months.....someone will push something through.... whether its right or wrong.....so i think the Gun-Rights people had better sit down and get something worked out with the powers that be,otherwise something may get passed that they may not like.....

Damn! That sorta shoots a hole in the $1.2 billion surplus argument.

I wonder which is closer to the truth!

Thanks!

Maybe the governor is ignoring the liability side of the balance sheet.

You hear what you want to hear. Most of the liability is based on local government - city, county and special districts and the obligations are not part of an annual state budget. Local governments have already begun the change to pension and health care benefits for employees. The State has done so too. Damn your stupid.

I agree with the underlined.

Most of the liability is with CalPERS defined pension and health insurance.
CalPERS promises a 7% (+?) return every year, but if they don't make that return the short fall goes on the backs of every taxpayer in this state, on top of what the taxpayer is already contributing for public employees.

CalPERS is an agency in the California executive branch.

California also needs to do away with annuitants.

comeon, read your own link and then comport the link with the annual state budget.

Governor's Revised Budget - General Government

Check this out, Wry.
Governor's Budget -

Governor's Budget - Type in unfunded liabilities.

You think the SacBee would come out against Jerry?

I tried to search unfunded Liabilities and nothing came up. I understand that bonds and pension/employee health care are unfunded liabilities. The point is they are not due within one fiscal year. We are talking apple and oranges (if I'm wrong please correct me).

I agree, but the voters are not happy that nothing has been done. I am tired of hearing about it, and am seriously concerned. While I am still somewhat open minded, if someone at the grocery store handed me a petition to sign that said, "Remove the Second Amendment," I would sign it, just to slap the NRA. When Republicans start losing independent voters like me, they are in real trouble.

they never had me.....a Republican or a Democrat would have to be a pretty convincing person to get me to vote for them.....

I have been both, and agree with you. In my early thirties, I am becoming a believer in Winston Churchill's quotation. "If you aren't a liberal by age 20 you have no heart. If you aren't a conservative by age 40 you have no brain"

I love starting threads that get a lot of activity.

But, why do they all degenerate like this one has?

Actually, the truth is...
you're stupid!

You can't keep brain dead people from posting in any thread. Start something in the Clean Debate Zone and you'll find fewer know-it-all assholes posting lame thoughts.

BTW, your photo threads really rock!

And yet my post called you stupid after pointing out the err in your argument. You don't have the integrity to do so. Or the brain to understand the difference between deficit and debt.

BTW, I do understand the distinction: You're an asshole and your posts are ridiculous.
