The Socialist Republic of California

I foresee a vast upsurge in ammo purchases in stores just over the border in Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona!

As long as their purchase remains in Nev. Oregon or Arizona that's fine. If such becomes the norm, I foresee making the importation without a permit a felony. Maximum fine for a Felony in California is $10,000.

That will probably not stand up in court...Interstate Commerce Clause comes to mind.

And, of course, the simple fact that the chance of getting caught is minuscule.

It's been the United Socialist Republic of California since the 1960's. FLOWER POWER!! MAKE LOVE NOT WAR!

Yick!

You're full of Bull Loney.

And you're full of shit. Since when do you liberals get off telling us how we can buy our own ammunition and how much of it we're allowed? I've been to California twice in my lifetime, very nice place to visit. But I won't be moving there anytime soon.

:clap2:

Clearly the people of California are glad to hear it.

And ‘liberals’ aren’t telling anyone how to do anything.

Once again we see the hypocrisy of the right, in their advocacy of ‘states’ rights.’

I will greatly enjoy seeing Ca. get it's ass kicked by the Supreme Court. They've had it coming for some time now.

and the sad part is......they know its coming and its going to cost the tax payer plenty and they will probably lose.....and these guys dont care.....they are looking at it as way to grab $50.00 from someone......

It's more than the money, it will create a defacto state wide registration. They will know what people own by the ammo they purchase. This is one reason it will not survive a challenge.

California Senate Approves Background Checks, Permits and Fees for Ammunition Purchases

The California Senate this week approved a collection of bills, including one (SB 53) that would require background checks, permits, and fees for the purchase of ammunition.

All ammunition sales would have to be face-to-face, happening only in the presence of a store clerk; and vendors selling the bullets would have to submit sales records to the California Department of Justice. Those vendors also would need a permit to sell ammunition.

It's a poll tax. It's unconstitutional

CA has been in the news lately because Democrats have been claiming that the state government now has a balanced budget and even a slight surplus. Sadly, many experts have pointed out that this claim of a "balanced budget" is based on some very dubious math. In reality, CA has neither a balanced budget nor a surplus.

The balanced budget and surplus is the same as every year. It's projected and never happens. The proposed gun control laws will be like all the other gun control laws. Ignored. No one is going to control the impotrtation of ammunition from other states. Most of the time even the agriculture inspection stations are closed. No one is going to be fined and if they were it would be like all the other fines. Ignored. No one is going to jail because a federal court has released thousands of felons already and ordered the prison system not to shovel every one they can behind bars. It would be nothing short of a comedy to see Caalifornia's crippled system deal with thousands of new felons.

This is one of those laws that makes liberals wet between the legs but has no other effect.

The people of California stopped paying attention to the legislature long ago. That's why our voter turn out is around 20%. If you do support state's rights and the will of the people then you must also support Prop 8. That was a direct vote.

California is a cool place but most of those bills probably won't help with crime, will inconvenience, law abiding citizens and probably won't hold up in court.

There are some truly fine people in California. We need to remember that states are like countries and have to serve the people that live within its borders and no others.

Also, since they bought Obama's favor by voting largely for him, I don't see an administration that would call them if they broke faith with the US Constitution on gun legislation.

I'm so sorry about this, and I hope California overcomes the problems it feels are imposed on its citizens by the original Second Amendment before legislation from the bench began.

Yeah, I know. Shouldn't have painted that broad brush. There are many out there who truly care.

Changing the rules so the GOP's power was finally neutered, and their numbers in Sacramento reflected their real support in the state, has helped California tremendously

For too long, the GOP minority got in the way of responsible budgeting. The massive debt & deficit was entirely the GOP's fault. Californians don't have to worry about their minority concerns, illegitimate grievances, and failed policies anymore.

And California conservatives have no one to blame but themselves for it.

IF the California legislature had passed this bill and required all those who purchase guns and ammunition to do so at a State Owned Store, which ran background checks administered by sales clerks who were State Employees you would have a point.

Seems as if this law comports well with the ideas of the NRA. Didn't they want to prevent the mentally ill and criminals from getting guns and ammo? How else could that be done without background checks.

The law was passed by democratically elected representatives
.
Democratic elections do not preclude loony people from winning office. When the electorate cares only about what they can get out government, loony liberals get elected. That's because they will promise ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to EVERYBODY and then fuck over MOST of them.

California is replete with looney liberal politicians that were democratically elected by other looney liberals and utter dupes.

I predict we will all have to chip in at some time in the near future to keep California out of total bankruptcy. Pelosi seems to have guided a lot of funds to California already....just as Sleazy Reid did for his home state.

All members of Congress guide funds to their state. Suggesting otherwise is dishonest.

CA, under the leadership of Gov. Brown and the Democrat's leadership in the Assembly and Senate is on the road to recovery. A result of tax increases, spending cuts and a readily improving economy. The latter described as booming in a recent article on hiring in Silicon Valley. Housing in Mission Bay is being built in the district where AT&T Park is located, as well as a UCSF campus, high tech and medical research projects. Home values in the SF Bay Area are up by as much as 22.5% and the Stock and Bond Markets Nationally have grown every month since January.

The Bush Recession of 2007-2009 is over folks, no thanks to the Republicans and the Tea Party. In fact without their input we would be in full recovery with unemployment down to a manageable 5%. Cuts to Civil Service Employees - yes cuts to those first responders and teachers who showed their metal this past week in Tornado Alley - have kept the percent of unemployed high.

The economy in my region is good and getting better suggesting the prediction by asaratis is nothing but hot air coming from the ass of an ignoramus. Of course that's quite common on this forum.
