I assume you're talking primarily about Medicaid, which is a joint federal-state program administered by states but funded mostly by the federal government. Even though the federal government pays at least 50% of the bill in every state (and considerably more in most), Medicaid is still usually the first or second largest item in state budgets.

But guess what? No state is required to participate in Medicaid. They all do but no one's holding a gun to their heads.

If you look objectively, comparing the right "fear of the communist manifesto" with the reality of the right wing "Wedge Document", you will find that the right has been far more successful at damaging the foundation of the country.

Their stated goal has been to turn this country into a kind of "Christian right wing Theocracy" modeled much closer to Iran, with the exception that Christianity would replace Islam. I think you're misunderstanding what those maps are. They indicate how much money states get back in federal expenditures for every tax dollar that goes from them to the federal government. It doesn't say those states are the "best run," it says money is being drained from them and ending up in the states that get more back from the federal government than they paid in taxes.

What does the Federal government contribute to the economy? What do the sates contribute to the economy? D.C is 10 miles square how many factories are within that 10 square miles? What about fram land? shipping ports? energy? Once again the Federal government would fall without the help from the states. I assure you that the states could maintain the welfare of it's citizens far better than D.C. could ever dream of doing. At least they would keep better control and make sure thatb their ios no waste, no more bailouts.

I think you're misunderstanding what those maps are. They indicate how much money states get back in federal expenditures for every tax dollar that goes from them to the federal government.
