Only because they did. The Heritage Foundation came up with the idea, Bob Dole actually proposed it, Romney implemented it in MA, but when the black guy did it, it became "socialism".

If it was such a good idea, why didn't any of the other 49 states follow the plan that Romney got passed in Massachusetts? Weren't there any Democrat Governors during that 30 years that thought it would be good for the people in their states?

Bill and Hillary tried to pass it and failed when he became President for all 50 states, but apparently didn't think it was good enough for the people of Arkansas when he was Governor.

I could name a dozen more liberal Democrat Governors during that time frame that didn't have the courage to introduce it in their state, but you would probably blame it on George Bush.

I was surprised that he caved on the single-payer so soon, but not too surprised. I would not have been surprised if the Iraqis gave in to our demand on the status of forces agreement, that we'd still have troops there either. Face it, he's a left of center statist, ubt a statist nonetheless.

He didnt cave on single payer because it was never on the table. When the question came up of a gov't run insurance company he didnt cave on that either. He simply announced he was for hope and change and left it up to the Congress to write the legislation.
