This is why you can't have nice things.....Colorado resort communities want to impose a vacancy tax on unoccupied homes

Lol, no. So the community benefits.

I realize republicans don't care about the community, but the rest of us think it's pretty important.
So how many times must owners be taxed on a home that they already pay property tax on? Why do they need to pay extra just because they are not there?

Nevermind the money that the owners (or a short term renter) spend in the community when they are there.

I suspect they are frequenting the over-priced establishments that exist in a tourist location.

I note you don't cry "price-gouging" about that as long as those of means are footing the bill.

You people are leeches. Hell, I have more respect for a real leech than you people.

It's to keep them from being used as short term rentals like air b&b.

I applaud the move.

Why?

Why can a person not make some money renting out their house for Air BnB?

Where is the harm?

Should all those beach communities in the US make the same rules?

Chances are the short term renters are spending more money while they are there than the locals in the same time period

Worker housing shortages exist in all those places in the on season.....Always has, always will.

Maybe if the blue states used some of those trillions in grift money to build them barracks, tiny homes, trailer parks, or such for on-season use (you know, charge them rent) they would not be in such a situation.

Thing is they are also trying to permanently house illegals in America's tourist playgrounds.....CO in particular, because they work cheap......Nobody is being fooled.

This whole airb&b thing is a disaster for paces like CO small towns. It shoots real estate prices out of range of the actual residents of the towns and causes inflation on everything else. It turns small town America into tourist traps.

I applaud anything anyone does to stop it.

You people need to realize that profit is not everything.

It is destroying small towns all over America.

And yes, the beach towns should do the same.

Profit is not everything

Jackson Wy is another playground for the very very rich. There is no affordable housing. The people who work in Jackson, the bartenders, wait staff, housekeeping, store clerks and every other wage earner literally has no where to live. Jackson just mandated that major employers, like the ski lodges and such have to provide housing for their employees. They buy the condos. They rent to the apartments. It has worked out quite well.

Jackpot Nevada is an extremely small town with two casinos that are the major employers. Each casino has an apartment building to house the people that work for them. No taxes on anyone one else. Colorado is a democrat state. The solution for every problem is to raise taxes or impose a new tax. The democrats need to be voted out of office and sane people be elected.

What freedom do you imagine I am removing?

The freedom to do with my property want I want without punishment from the state.

Nobody is harmed by tourist using an AirBnB, in fact more money in brought into the community helping it.

Who do you think spends more money in a week, a local or someone there on vacation?

Which uses less public services?

So, a new tax is wrong but mandated housing is cool?
