Case in point. Companies have been known to try and recruit someone with two years experience with a software package that hasn't been in the U.S. but for one year. Then recruit a foreigner claiming that they have the requisite experience.

Look......I've been in this business for a very long time. I know WTF I'm talking about. It's very often I run into drivers with good paying companies asking me if I'd be interested working for their company. They can't find enough people no matter what they do. Too many Americans are sitting home with their Obama phone and food stamps. They don't want to work. My employer is looking for a new driver now to replace the one leaving next week. He's going to have a hell of a time like he always does. The few people willing to work can't pass a drug test though.

Those people are taken care of by our social programs. They don't need to work if they don't want to. Some of them do I suppose, but it's not a necessity or survival.

By cutting social programs, I'm talking about the many who are physically and mentally capable of working, but don't.

Are you being flippant? Some people can work and want to work, but they can't get beyond a certain level with jobs. They won't be the head of Google or a rocket scientist, but they shouldn't have to work for a check that is less than what they could make on disability.

For your information, people on disability can still work. Two of my tenants are on disability: one on full disability and the other partial disability. Both have jobs but the allowable income allows them to make a decent living.

I won't debate you on that. I'd have to look into it. But it's the first I've ever heard of something like that. How can the state prove somebody is taking the medication they require?

I don't understand your post, but a drug test says a person is taking drugs. If you don't need the drug, but have to take it in order to get a disability check, the employer knows.

But, the employer can STILL deny you the job if you're using a mind altering drug. If you don't NEED the drug, why is the government pushing them onto people?

My tenant (full time disability) does take drugs for mental conditions, and he's working all kinds of hours. In fact they always beg him to work more but he can't because he maxes out his income level every month.

To my knowledge, the state has no idea whether you are taking medications or not. Even if they checked up on you, all they might be able to tell is if they were purchased or not.

If you're in your mid to late 20's or higher & working for minimum wage you have no one to blame but yourself. You're poor choices should not result in a 10.00 Big Mac or 4 dollar fry.

We have a two-fold problem in this country when it comes to finding workers: social programs and parents allowing their kids to live with them forever.

If a person doesn't have a real need to work, they won't. Years ago parents wouldn't put up with that nonsense from their children. If the kid wasn't in college and not working, they kicked him out of the house. That was it. Not many places drug tested either back then.

So most everybody went out and got a job.....any job. In a younger day, it was very often I worked six to seven days a week, had two jobs, or worked 10 to 12 hour days. Not a lot of people do that any longer. If they can't make it on 40 hours a week, too bad. They'll apply for some social program to fill in the gaps if any.

Being in the industry, I concur. I am constantly putting up ads for new drivers and the driver shortage is only getting worse. As the unemployment rate falls, the ability to get mediocre drivers is difficult, if you have a good driver...you don't let him go!
 
If a kid and parents agree to the kid living at home, the kid is working and gets zero assistance why does that bother you? Obviously the jobs you speak of aren't that great otherwise people would apply.

I sometimes have gigs around my house. It might consist of building a deck or fixing a water heater. It's my home and let me make your argument for you:

I'm the employer. I decide what the job is worth. I'm not asking the government for their help nor imposing on them in any way, shape, fashion or form. So I advertise on Craigslist and if the guy I hire screws up the job or takes me for a ride, the ONLY swinging Richard that will be hurt is yours truly. But, the moment I do, there are fifty guys who made the same argument you do jumping on my ass like a bad diaper.

They worry that they guy I hired is here illegally; he don't have a license; he isn't insured; on and on it goes. IF the government can be utilized to their advantage to protect their jobs and their inflated salaries that are not in line with what a job is worth, your boys are all for it.
Since you are the employer, did you with hold their payroll deductions? Did you pay workers comp on them? Did you file the proper forms with EDD in regards to your workers?

If you failed to do any of the above, you can be held liable for tax fraud etc. Let's hope you get caught one day, and then you can wonder why a business charges you what they do per hour for a job you hire out for. SMFH

Well once those foriegners you talked crap about, have been exploited for say 5 to 10 years out, then wa-la we will have yet another crying whining group who will claim that they got abused by that mean nasty ole whitey who had white privilege to do onto them anything they dam well pleased. Then What ???? A few years ago our city was considering a huge minimum wage increase. They wanted it $15.00 an hour. Even the liberal council realized what a grave mistake that would have been. They voted it down because they knew businesses would flee Cleveland and reopen in the suburbs.

Since that was a failure, they tried to get the county to have a $15.00 an hour minimum wage. They too refused to go along with the idea for the same reason.

Asked and answered. If people cannot make a realistic wage, they will qualify for welfare, housing subsidies, AFDC, etc. Taxpayers will either pay higher taxes or 15 cents more a meal for a Big Mac.

Which is a good argument for stopping those subsidies for people that want to smoke pot, work low wage jobs, and never try to better themselves.

I really don't know. But drug tests are legal because the employer gets a cut on his Workman's Compensation insurance. According to my employer, Workman's Compensation is one of his largest expenditures. Of course we are a small company.

They are still a violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Corporations today are top heavy bad, and making up jobs for family members and friends along with college grads being catered to until they figure their life out, doesn't leave a whole lot of crumbs on the table left. It's time the workers of AMERICA are respected again, and this will fix the problem if it isn't too far gone. Years of bullcrap has broke many systems now, and the only way to repair it now is to admit to the problems.

We aren't a corp. We are a small business and we pay upper scale in our area. We are all for paying more for good drivers. When unemployment drops to under 5%, it gets tough to find people that want to work.
 
Finding good people isn't difficult if the jobs open are better than existing ones. If not the employer must be avoided for they are bad.

Another problem these days is that the old and the wise who built and ran these companies for over 30 to 50 years in alot of cases has since been passing away from old age etc. Then we have family members taking over these companies that sadly are idiots, arrogant greed loving losers, and new players that want something easy, fast and loose. Many long standing companies have been destroyed by these types. Then the golden parachutes begin flying like mad afterwards.

You speak from an assumption that taxpayers have a responsibility to provide a certain lifestyle to others. That attitude is increasingly being questioned, and circumstances may well change.

I don't have presumptions about anything. Either those who are only able to work certain jobs are paid for their services OR we will cover them.

If your way was THE way, how come it hasn't been done with a stacked Congress (Senate and House) along with the prez. Maybe, deep down, they don't buy the whole talking point?

Paying someone for their work is not charity. And we do provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.

Not at all against profit sharing if that is the corporate decision. But frankly, when I was in a position to have to work a nine-to-five company, I was there for my own benefit, not for some second family, and did what I had to do to improve my own position.

Companies want to train, license, and get the driver on the road ASAP. Like any other job, you pay your dues when you first start out. And with electronic log books these days, it will be impossible to be driving too long without the chance of getting busted.

In any event, we currently need over 30,000 drivers industry can't find. They are bringing in foreigners to do the work because they can't find Americans to do it. Some can't speak a word of English and they are terrible drivers to boot.

Once you have a year or two under your belt, the world is yours. You can get excellent paying jobs with great benefits, work for a major carrier if you don't want to go over the road, and never have to worry about being unemployed again.

If you believe what you're peddling, you would start an employment agency and recruit the thousands upon thousands of people that have made a mistake in their lives or have special needs.

I know of one company that not only will not hire truck drivers with a record, but won't hire one that's been divorced! Know this:

Some employers don't want Americans - especially WASPs on their payroll. Even in white collar jobs it's not unusual for employers to advertise for a job with qualifications that NOBODY has so that they can hire foreigners on a special waiver just to get the foreigner in that position.

Case in point. Companies have been known to try and recruit someone with two years experience with a software package that hasn't been in the U.S. but for one year. Then recruit a foreigner claiming that they have the requisite experience.

Look......I've been in this business for a very long time. I know WTF I'm talking about. It's very often I run into drivers with good paying companies asking me if I'd be interested working for their company. They can't find enough people no matter what they do. Too many Americans are sitting home with their Obama phone and food stamps. They don't want to work. My employer is looking for a new driver now to replace the one leaving next week. He's going to have a hell of a time like he always does. The few people willing to work can't pass a drug test though.

Nobody is looking for foreigners. Any company will be happy to hire an American over a foreigner. Hell, they'll be happy to hire anybody that will take the job for that matter.

Being in the industry, I concur. I am constantly putting up ads for new drivers and the driver shortage is only getting worse. As the unemployment rate falls, the ability to get mediocre drivers is difficult, if you have a good driver...you don't let him go!
. PAY THEM !!!!! Corporations today are top heavy bad, and making up jobs for family members and friends along with college grads being catered to until they figure their life out, doesn't leave a whole lot of crumbs on the table left. It's time the workers of AMERICA are respected again, and this will fix the problem if it isn't too far gone. Years of bullcrap has broke many systems now, and the only way to repair it now is to admit to the problems.

We aren't a corp. We are a small business and we pay upper scale in our area. We are all for paying more for good drivers. When unemployment drops to under 5%, it gets tough to find people that want to work.
. Work for what in the amount of pay offered by your company ?? Hmmm, y'all might be trying to be to big way to fast, and this instead of letting the market determine your ability to grow responsibly. If trying to corner a market by attempting to work people for an undesirable pay, then yes it will be super hard to attract what you want to the table in order to maintain or grow all depending. Charity is not nor has ever legally been the venue of the federal government. It is a usurped power.

Paying someone for their work is not charity. And we do provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.

Being forced to pay someone more than their work is worth is not charity either, but theft.

And yes, we do provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. We are also forced to take care of those who are fully capable of working and providing for themselves.

Do you realize how many people from the right that support you make the exact polar opposite argument when it's their job on the line?
