You are an advocate of government when government works specifically for you, but government is the enemy anytime it attempts to work somehow for all others within this vast country in which we all live in right ? Hey, I'm for a merit based society for the most part, and I'm for a free one at that, but I'm also for recognizing decency standards, and human rights, along with freedom, liberty, and justice for all.

So Socialism fits you perfectly!

. Good grief.. Get help.

I'm not the one advocating for Socialism.

Bad companies...and there are a huge amount of them....are avoided by anyone who has a work ethic.

People have life circumstances in which they have to take a job in the service industry. I knew a guy in college who's mom got sick. He had to drop out in freshman and take a job as a waiter to support his siblings. With minimum wage he was barely making it.

Ideally working in the service industry should just be for teenagers. But in our capitalist society, that's not the case.

No one is asking for pay yo buy a home. But a wage that you're able yo Iive on without needing food stamps or some assistance is reasonable.

If he was a decent waiter, he should have been making pretty good tips.

Why should working in the service industry just be for teenagers? Maybe you don't visit any moderate or very upscale restaurants but not all service jobs are with a fast food restaurant. A top server in a top restaurant can make very good money.

What is the typical household income where one of the workers earns minimum wage? Come on, step up!

if the average employee is getting 15.00 hr. times? lets say 30 people in one day? that comes out to about 3500 a day in labor. and we are talking a larger/busier McDonalds. then u add the cost of the food that was sold, then the electricity/misc restaurant supplies/water/insurance. gee. what would that come out to per day? you have to sell quite a lot of happy meals just to break even!!!!

If you believe what you're peddling, you would start an employment agency and recruit the thousands upon thousands of people that have made a mistake in their lives or have special needs.

I know of one company that not only will not hire truck drivers with a record, but won't hire one that's been divorced! Know this:

Some employers don't want Americans - especially WASPs on their payroll. Even in white collar jobs it's not unusual for employers to advertise for a job with qualifications that NOBODY has so that they can hire foreigners on a special waiver just to get the foreigner in that position.

Case in point. Companies have been known to try and recruit someone with two years experience with a software package that hasn't been in the U.S. but for one year. Then recruit a foreigner claiming that they have the requisite experience.

Look......I've been in this business for a very long time. I know WTF I'm talking about. It's very often I run into drivers with good paying companies asking me if I'd be interested working for their company. They can't find enough people no matter what they do. Too many Americans are sitting home with their Obama phone and food stamps. They don't want to work. My employer is looking for a new driver now to replace the one leaving next week. He's going to have a hell of a time like he always does. The few people willing to work can't pass a drug test though.

Nobody is looking for foreigners. Any company will be happy to hire an American over a foreigner. Hell, they'll be happy to hire anybody that will take the job for that matter.

Being in the industry, I concur. I am constantly putting up ads for new drivers and the driver shortage is only getting worse. As the unemployment rate falls, the ability to get mediocre drivers is difficult, if you have a good driver...you don't let him go!
. PAY THEM !!!!! Corporations today are top heavy bad, and making up jobs for family members and friends along with college grads being catered to until they figure their life out, doesn't leave a whole lot of crumbs on the table left. It's time the workers of AMERICA are respected again, and this will fix the problem if it isn't too far gone. Years of bullcrap has broke many systems now, and the only way to repair it now is to admit to the problems.

We aren't a corp. We are a small business and we pay upper scale in our area. We are all for paying more for good drivers. When unemployment drops to under 5%, it gets tough to find people that want to work.
. Work for what in the amount of pay offered by your company ?? Hmmm, y'all might be trying to be to big way to fast, and this instead of letting the market determine your ability to grow responsibly. If trying to corner a market by attempting to work people for an undesirable pay, then yes it will be super hard to attract what you want to the table in order to maintain or grow all depending. Good luck.

Nope, the industry has more drivers retiring than coming into the field. cities with all the benefits are having trouble finding CDL drivers, school districts are the same way. Trucking companies are in the same boat. I can find people that want a job however finding drivers that have a CDL and are wanting to work are another issue. We have been the same size since 2008, we aren't growing, ownership doesn't want a bigger piece of the pie, they are just maintaining. Most of our drivers are 60 plus in age. It will work out, it always does. Just tough when a guy retires.

Who cares about McDonalds. I could care less if they all shut their doors...it would be comical.

Perhaps there are still too many Democrats in the Republican Party.

Charity is not nor has ever legally been the venue of the federal government. It is a usurped power.

Paying someone for their work is not charity. And we do provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.

Being forced to pay someone more than their work is worth is not charity either, but theft.

And yes, we do provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. We are also forced to take care of those who are fully capable of working and providing for themselves.
So you are against "profit sharing" where as when the company does well, then it lifts all boats in which were participant's in that process ? How can people sit there and not consider their company as a family, where as the structure is to be protected and looked after in the same ways that a family structures itself, and it also takes care of the family/company through the good times and the bad ?? Why all the golden parachutes today, and the extreme corrupt greed thinking that is tearing a nation apart bit by bit by bit ??

Not at all against profit sharing if that is the corporate decision. But frankly, when I was in a position to have to work a nine-to-five company, I was there for my own benefit, not for some second family, and did what I had to do to improve my own position.
. Your company wasn't your extended family eh ? How goes it in your own family ? Is it just about you there as well ?

My own family is extreme "Life O'Riley" fantastic, thanks.

The company should rejoice when a good driver retires. Less pay for a newbie. The real truth is companies don't value their best workers....same holds true for your best drivers.

Who cares about McDonalds. I could care less if they all shut their doors...it would be comical.

Say's a lot about the type of person you are. I hope I never get as sad and bitter as you, taking delight in others misfortune is disgusting.

but make a big deal out of paying a little more for a burger so that some child don't end up on welfare, costing you even more?

Other than money, what is the single most important difference between a child being raised in poverty and a child being raised above the poverty level?

What's your point?

Are you afraid to answer and admit you know the real problem? Come on show some courage!

No guts, no glory! :D

One less toxic food to slowly kill people or raise our health insurance rates. Responsible people don't eat there ever.

Bad companies...and there are a huge amount of them....are avoided by anyone who has a work ethic.
. Sometimes people can't avoid a bad company, and they have to do what they have to do, but is it right that a company exploit people for whom they know are vulnerable in certain ways ?? Why does anyone agree with stuff like that ?

"Living Wage" concepts applied to endangered starter jobs is immoral. It promotes the JOB -- not the PERSON. And it keeps folks in menial jobs, most likely to be replaced by automation.

In addition, the "bleeding hearts" that push making folks COMFORTABLE in dead end jobs, are screwing up so many other things that they don't KNOW -- they are screwing up..

Inner city HS drop-out rates are EMBARASSING. More and more these embarrassing statistics are hidden by "pushing" kids to graduation that don't deserve a diploma. MOST of these kids want to leave dysfunctional or abusive homes.

How is the HS supposed to KEEP THEM in school, when lefties are waving "living wage" jobs in front of their faces? You will DOOM all those who take your stinky bait. They wont survive in any kind of meaningful 21st Century career.

PERSONALLY -- I'd like to see Min Wage ONLY applied to folks that are in some form of Continuing Education. With exceptions only for seniors and the mentally challenged. Companies would rather subsidize GED, Comm College or Vocational work -- than pay a "living wage" and TRAP the under-educated into a life of struggle.. .

. Sounds like to much dam regulations then, and to much big brother in the way. When I was in my early twenties, I drove a gasoline tanker. The hazmat test was given to me by the company. Upon passing it, I was then sent to the DOT by the company to get my endorsement. This was when the trucker license was called a class 3 license. I drove for 4 years until went into the career field I chose outside of trucking.

Now how was I able to drive a stick of Dynamite down a public highway back then, and these days a person is being led to believe that if they can't be a Philadelphia lawyer who just so happens to be a truck driver in possession of a CDL, then they need not apply anymore ??? Then if they do apply, well then they have to be a Philadelphia lawyer and Truck driver for Penny's on the dollar ? Good grief.. How ridiculous all this bullcrap is today.

Not to mention some companies will not only train you, but pay you while you learn and a guaranteed job.
. Yeah like someone who told me once that he was getting a sorry flat salary for training, and the lead driver was getting all the pay for the miles he drove ?? Then the lead driver was taking advantage by forcing him to drive far to many miles instead of doing the right thing in the situation ?? The corruption and exploitation is unbelievable in this nation for many, but we all just keep going like there is nothing wrong or nothing to see or hear when we do see or hear it. Then comes the excuses, the never ending excuses. As a mechanic back in the day, I have heard some stories over the years.

Companies want to train, license, and get the driver on the road ASAP. Like any other job, you pay your dues when you first start out. And with electronic log books these days, it will be impossible to be driving too long without the chance of getting busted.

In any event, we currently need over 30,000 drivers industry can't find. They are bringing in foreigners to do the work because they can't find Americans to do it. Some can't speak a word of English and they are terrible drivers to boot.

Once you have a year or two under your belt, the world is yours. You can get excellent paying jobs with great benefits, work for a major carrier if you don't want to go over the road, and never have to worry about being unemployed again.

If you believe what you're peddling, you would start an employment agency and recruit the thousands upon thousands of people that have made a mistake in their lives or have special needs.

. Well once those foriegners you talked crap about, have been exploited for say 5 to 10 years out, then wa-la we will have yet another crying whining group who will claim that they got abused by that mean nasty ole whitey who had white privilege to do onto them anything they dam well pleased. Then What ???? I know, how about beginning to respect labor or drivers etc. again in this nation, and quit screwing them over, and clean up the mess that has been made by the greedy who took this nation into the pit of hell in which you are on here now giving testimony too ?? Do you realize that you are living testimony of a system that has come to a climax in corruption, and this is why you have to make your claim that the industry is suffering badly now when it comes to drivers needed ??

Most transportation companies treat their drivers very well. An experienced driver could walk into the owners office, piss on his desk right in front of him, and have a new job the next day. The employee has the advantage over the employer.

Foreigners take jobs with moving companies (which no American wants to do) container trucks or flatbeds. Because truck drivers don't have constitutional rights, we have these cops out there called Department of Transportation (DOT) cops. They are allowed to pull you over for no reason whatsoever. If you ever wondered what it felt like to be a German citizen during WWII, driver a truck in Ohio.

So now these DOT cops are targeting container trailers because they know their chances of pulling over a foreigner who doesn't give a shit is very good. It's almost a guaranteed violation(s).

Exactly. What horse will move faster, the one with the carrot dangling in front of him on a string or the one who is fed carrots constantly?

What kept me trying different jobs when I was younger is that the wage was less than satisfactory. I'd hate to think of where I might be today if Democrats were always in charge rising the minimum wage all the time. I might have spent much of my life at my first full-time job at the car wash.
