Under the leadership of Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus, the GOP has launched yet another rebranding effort, and this time they've offered a helpful document to outline their principles. Unfortunately, they failed to provide a translation from Consultantese to English, but the good news is that Daily Kos is here to save the day. Here goes:
  • CONSTITUTION: Our Constitution should be preserved, valued and honored.
Translation: We're for the Constitution as long as you're a corporation. If you're a Democrat who wants to vote or a woman who wants to make her own healthcare decisions, tough luck.
  • ECONOMY We need to start growing America’s economy instead of Washington’s economy so that working Americans see better wages and more opportunity.
Translation: We can't run on the Bush record, or against the more than 9 million jobs created under Obama since the Great Recession, so a meaningless slogan is all we've got.
  • BUDGET: We need to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, make government more efficient, and leave the next generation with opportunity, not debt.
Translation: We think it makes more sense to put kids in jail than offer them an education and that it's smarter to rebuild bridges after they collapse than maintaining them so they don't fall in the first place.
  • HEALTH CARE: We need to start over with real healthcare reform that puts patients and their doctors in charge, not unelected bureaucrats in Washington.
Translation: In case you hadn't figured it out from our 50-plus votes to repeal Obamacare ... we still want to repeal Obamacare, but please don't ask us why we want to renominate Mitt Romney, the father of Obamacare.
  • VETERANS: Our veterans have earned our respect and gratitude, and no veteran should have to wait in line for months or years just to see a doctor.
Translation: We're happy about the problems at the V.A. because it means we don't have to talk about repeatedly voting to block veterans' benefits. Plus, if we get lucky maybe we can privatize the whole thing.
  • SECURITY: Keeping America safe and strong requires a strong military, growing the economy, energy independence, and secure borders.
Translation: We want you to be more afraid of ISIS and immigrants than climate change.
  • EDUCATION: Every child should have an equal opportunity to get a great education; no parent should be forced to send their child to a failing school.
    Translation: Separate, but equal.
  • POVERTY: The best anti-poverty program is a strong family and a good job, so our focus should be on getting people out of poverty by lifting up all people and helping them find work.
Translation: Poor people have bad family values and don't want to work.
  • VALUES: Our country should value the traditions of family, life, religious liberty, and hard work.
Translation: Women shouldn't be allowed to make decisions about their own reproductive health, their employers should be able to decide what health care services are covered by their insurance, and see above re: poverty.
  • ENERGY: We should make America energy independent by encouraging investment in domestic energy, lowering prices, and creating jobs at home.
Translation: If we build the Keystone pipeline, gas prices will fall to $0.25 per gallon, there will be full employment, and trees will thank us for giving them an unlimited supply of the carbon dioxide they like to breathe.
  • IMMIGRATION: We need an immigration system that secures our borders, upholds the law, and boosts our economy.
Translation: Yeah, we know there needs to be comprehensive immigration reform, but our base will never allow that to happen, so let's secure the borders and build the dang fence, because not even we can stand up to the GOP rank and file.

Your translations exhibit how far your disease has progressed. Do you often have to lie and twist reality to make yourself feel better?

I'm really impressed by the depth and specificity found in that list of principles. It's a clear blueprint toward a more prosperous America. Not vague at all. It leaves no question as to how we should move forward.

Outstanding.
