For the past half of the century, the MSM doesn't exist to inform the public, they exist to inform each other and to synchronize their narrative in leftist favor.

In the old fashioned NYT narrative, which whole leftist media adopted, they started coverage with "Trump has no evidence" before even saying "about what".

Despite they went after Trump with the whole "Russian connection" without providing any evidence, now they're asking for evidence of Trump Tower being wiretapped, which make them look even worse by attacking him for it. It is truth that he hasn't provided any, at least not yet. Even Trump wouldn't go that far if doesn't have any proof, so it's possible that he's baiting them to expose themselves, so that there will be minimal resistance when the rope comes. If everything goes well, the people will be calling for their heads, and Trump will come out as good guy, cite the constitution and let them have their freedom of press, without any obligation to let them near the White House again.
