Both DNC and RNC have rules to cover situations in which the winning candidate of a state primary withdrawals from the nomination process. The state committee or caucus is given 7 days to decide on replacement. The replacement gets all delegate votes pledged to the candidate that has withdrawal from the nomination. This is exactly what would have happen if Trump had withdrew his name from nomination in 2020. There is simple not enough time to hold 50 new state primaries.

The idea that state delegates are always bound to the primary vote is not true. State delegates are freed after the 1st ballot or if candidate has withdrawal from nomination.
