Trump family sued by NY

No shit.
They may believe a lawyer or a licensed third-party appraiser.

I know, at least they should.
I don't know how Trump did it.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump says he received a $17 million insurance payment in 2005 for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach. But The Associated Press has found little evidence of such large-scale damage.

Two years after a series of storms, the real estate tycoon said he didn’t know how much had been spent on repairs, but acknowledged he pocketed some of the money. He transferred funds into his personal accounts, saying that under the terms of his policy “you didn’t have to reinvest it.”

“Landscaping, roofing, walls, painting, leaks, artwork in the — you know, the great tapestries, tiles, Spanish tiles, the beach, the erosion,” he said of the storm damage. “It’s still not what it was.”

Trump’s description of extensive damage does not match the versions of Mar-a-Lago members and even Trump loyalists. In an interview about Mar-a-Lago’s history, Trump’s longtime former butler, Anthony Senecal, recalled no catastrophic damage. He said Hurricane Wilma, the last of a string of storms which barreled through in 2004 and 2005, flattened trees behind the estate, but the house itself only lost some roof tiles.

Just over two weeks after Wilma, Trump hosted 370 guests at Mar-a-Lago for the wedding of his son Donald Jr. Wedding photographs by Getty Images showed the house, pools, cabanas and landscaping seemingly in good repair.

Palm Beach building department records showed no permits for construction on that scale after the storms. The only permits that appeared hurricane-related were $3,000 in repairs to storm-damaged outdoor lighting and the vacuuming of sand from the property’s beachfront pool. Likewise, records of the city’s Landmarks and Preservation Commission reflected no repair work conducted following the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.

So, how did Trump pull that off?
/———/ “But The Associated Press has found little evidence of such large-scale damage.”
The AP is also in the insurance claims adjustment business? The AP sent a contractor to the estate to appraise the damage? Any idea how ridiculous this sounds?

You don't need one moron....................if there is NO damage.
Why did Trump claim he got $17 million from hurricane damage?

So, even Trump's butler is lying?

"AP sent a contractor"?

Trump didn't even do that?

So, Trump did the work himself, without pulling a permit?

I am sure Trump has proof of all those valuations
All he has to do is present them under oath
I think he will get away with the valuations and say this is what he thought they were worth and claim it was his objective opinion...

The problem then kicks in, the IRS valuations, when they are way off his Bank valuations (by multiples) he is in trouble.

While some will say that is some what the nature of the business, many people have gone to court over this and been found guilty... Much like the US don't vote ex strippers to be first ladies, having a NY real estate developer should be more concerning, the industry(and that particular market) is riddled with shady practices...
Just as an example Concrete in NYC, you are pouring a drop unless certain people have been massaged...

You can say that is the way things were done, but also shows you the type of person you are dealing with... He would break the law to make a profit... Seriously, do you think the forefathers would approve?

The tactic of just piling on. Over and over...doesn't matter if it is a lie or has no basis...the point is to overwhelm your political opposition in order to destroy him and his coming candidacy for the presidency.

thing is...we are all used to this and ready to vote for the guy. Not changing one of our minds. NOT one. What it does is make us more determined in the face of this fascist tyranny.
Trump delayed and delayed, especially during his presidency...

This was all piling up for 4 years and now he has run out of delay tactics...

He has also got the sexual harassment claims coming against him too..

Did you ever consider at actually looking at the evidence?
Did you ever consider what the Judge said last week might be valid? Show the proof and then we can talk...

This is just the world catching up with Trump... Trump hasn't been making operating profits for years, you can't keep operating at a loss..

I imagine this civil suit is the #1 concern of New Yorkers. Glad to see the AG has their priorities straight.
I think the AG is spot on here...

She has someone not paying $250m dollars in revenue... That pays for a lot of school heating, teachers aides, lunches for poor kids...
Well done, everyone should pay their fair share...

Why would she go to civil court and not criminal court?
Easier burden of proof...

All she has to prove is that the money was owed and Trump didn't pay it... New York State would have him for tax and penalties...
They don't need to prove intend, why take the risk. Get this as a win early and then see if there is any criminal liability they can prove..

Trump is being investigated because Letitia James is doing poorly in the polls and needs to kick the scapegoat to get publicity and fire up her radical left base.
Trump could have had an amazing defence...

Obey the tax laws... It is highly sneaky way of not getting sued.

James will win reelection by 20%, there is one dodgy poll out there which also had NY governor tight. Get real, This is like saying Taylor Green seat is in trouble in Georgia, it is not, it is a GOP seat..

The SDNY and IRS have already looked at his tax records. They found nothing...same with the NYC DA
We know that SDNY and IRS did it when Trump was President... Guess what, he isn't President anymore...

I think James might not win much on her case but she could set up a slam dunk for the IRS...

James will have Trump claiming that this is what he believed the values to be... The IRS then has him...
This might be the reason they have 100s of pleading the 5th in the family, they know there defence is to incriminate themselves in other places...

It might be better for Trump to loose against James.

This is not a coincidence. that nut EJean Carrol and now James. they are so fearful of this man they have to keep him off the ballot. It's not gonna work. At this point, democrats, even though all for this, know it is bogus.
They are asking Trump to pay the taxes he owes the New York people...

Trump has an option. Accept that the valuations were way lower (in multiples) and he signed off on them. This would make him civilly liable for damages of misreporting his wealth...

Trump could fight it and state that valuations are right and he was just following that valuations from Cushman and Wakefield. James has little case to answer except some of the glaring factual errors... But the IRS has an open and shut case, Trump put in his estimated values around the same time into the IRS, they can massage a little but Trump was in multiples.. Game Over, this baby is chess..

So I say Trump's lawyers saw this and are hoping that pleading the 5th a few hundred times and then hoping the burden of proof is proven by NY State. But they changed over to a civil case and lowered the burden of proof considerably...

Someone said and the weekend this is only the start, they are right.. Trump plan now is delay, delay as much as possible...

haha SDNY and the IRS aren’t prosecuting trump for anything

/—-/ Yeah, we need more clean democrats running things. They never do criminal stuff.

That is not how risk works...

The bank was subjected to far more risk than was needed... This is why there are financial laws to prevent this..

Trump companies have gone bankrupt in the past, so he has exploited this in the past..
/——-/ 6 bankruptcies out of 500 successful ones ones. Yeah, that Trump fella is a failure.

A newly uncovered video appears to contradict Donald Trump’s claim that he never knew a high-stakes gambler who was banned from New Jersey casinos for alleged ties to organized crime.

The reputed mob figure, Robert LiButti, can be seen standing alongside Trump in the front row of a 1988 “WrestleMania” match in Atlantic City, N.J. LiButti wasn’t there by accident, according to his daughter, Edith Creamer, who also attended the event. “We were his guests,” she told Yahoo News.

The video appears to lend new support to assertions Trump once had close relations with LiButti, who was banned from the state’s casinos in 1991 because of his ties to Mafia boss John Gotti, then the chief of the Gambino crime syndicate. Separately, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission that same year levied $650,000 in fines against the Trump Plaza hotel over its dealings with LiButti, who gambled huge sums at the hotel’s casino. LiButti died in 2014.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks replied by email: “This was obviously a massive event, which took place decades ago. Mr. Trump attended many similar events with thousands of people during this time period.”

In the past, Trump has consistently downplayed his relationship with LiButti. “If he was standing here in front of me, I wouldn’t know what he looked like,”

so he was standing by trump and he didn’t know what he looked like?

Trump CLAIMS he to have had, 500 companies.
More like 50 and most were failures...............like him.
/-----/ Oh, stop playing stupid. Why do you post stupid stuff when it can be refuted so quickly? It makes you look like a desperate democrat tool.

The Trump Organization is a group of about 500 business entities of which Donald Trump is the sole or principal owner.[5] Around 250 of these entities use the Trump name.[6][7] The organization was founded in 1927 by Donald Trump's paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Christ Trump, and his father, Fred Trump, as E. Trump & Son. Donald Trump began leading it in 1971, renamed it around 1973, and handed off its leadership to his children in 2016 when he won the 2016 United States presidential election, defeating Hillary Clinton.

Not even Hildabeast claims Trump had 50 bankrupt businesses, and we all know how she loves to exaggerate.
Fact Checking: Has Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy relief 4 or 6 times?

Let’s do some fact checking about how many times Donald Trump has filed for bankruptcy protection and why there is some debate over this number. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton correctly pointed out that Donald Trump had filed bankruptcy 6 times. Here is a quick breakdown of the six Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by companies owned by Donald Trump. All six of Donald Trump’s bankruptcy filings were prior to him becoming our current U.S. President.

  1. 1991: Trump’s Taj Mahal
  2. 1992: First of two Atlantic City casinos owned by Donald Trump.
  3. 1992: Second of two Atlantic City casinos owned by Donald Trump.
  4. 1992: Trump’s Plaza Hotel in New York City
  5. 2004: Trump’s Hotels and Casinos Resorts
  6. 2009: Trump’s Entertainment Resorts
