Wisconsin DMV Tells Boy His Bank Account Doesn

A video has surfaced of a boy trying to get one of the new Wisconsin Voter IDs that were ushered in by the signing of new a voting law in the state. Shot by the boy's mother with the clear intention of indicting the process, the video shows the pair going from station to station at the DMV, asking all of the right questions as to why there are so many hurdles to acquiring this constitutionally guaranteed ID card.

It is a shame the video is not edited more briskly -- at almost ten minutes in length its viral spread will certainly be thwarted -- but it nonetheless lends itself to breath-holding drama because of this fact.

The first station clerk determines that the boy's bank account does not display enough "activity" to constitute a proof of address form. This is not only absurd ("does he use it?") but a clear privacy infringement as is the follow up question of whether or not the account is of the "checking" or "savings" variety. "Oh, it's just a savings," the clerk remarks. The mother throws a subtle jab, countering that "he's unemployed."
So in Wisconsin you have to have a Bank Account in order to vote?

Having a checking account or a savings account with little or no activity is deemed as NOT an indication of residency...
I do not see the problem here.

The problem is that he is a citizen and has a right to vote.

Your party creating laws that keep Americans from voting so they can win elections is evil

If Dems hadn't cheated to begin with they would not have needed to make these laws.
And one bank statement is not proof of identity. Doesn't the kid have a birth certificate?

Why does a young man old enough to vote not have a driver's license to prove his residency?

It can't be that the family can't afford to get him one, as the mother says at the beginning of the film that he has a passport, and those cost more than a driver's license.

Wrong.

The problem is as our country's population grows and the problem with undocumented immigrants expands, the possibility of non citizens taking advantage of a privelage afforded ONLY American Citizens becomes more likely.

So Wisconsin deemed it best to ensure one is not only a citizen, but a resident of the state as well.

A bank account showing little or no activity is not enough evidence that one is a resident. To the contrary, I can open a bank account in all 50 states citing the address of a Motel 6 as my place of residence in every state.....as you do not need to PROVE you live at the address given to the bank when you open an account.

However, no one would want to give a phoney address of an account with activity as their statements would go to unknown people...opening the door to identity theft.

Thus why they say we will accept an account with activity...but not an account without activity.

There is no issue here TM.

None.

Not all people drive.
That is not the issue.
One needs to show a bank account with activity to establish it as a place of residence. It is a valid issue....TM is trying to make something of it but that is becuase she does not understand the mechanics.

Making hurdles for people to jump to vote is Anti American

you see it as a hurdle to prove you are a US citizen and a resident of the state?

Do you not see voting as a PRIVELEGE afforded to you becuase you are a citizen?

Do you feel it a hurdle to have to show your ticket to the usher at a ballpark?

TM.....nice try, but showing you have the right to vote should please you as an American Citizen.

If you have the time to get to the polls to vote you most certainly have the time to open your wallet to prove you have the privelege to vote.

I just wonder if this was just a "gotcha" video, a democrat version of O'Keefe trying to create a controversy. Why was the mother carrying a video camera in a way that would capture what was going on above the counter? Why did the film start after they were already involved in the process, instead of when they walked in? Was there something at the start that she didn't want shown?

I'll bet the son had a DL, but didn't show it so they could get this film.

A Democrat would NEVER stoop so low.

(I think I threw up a little in my mouth when I said that)

Once again she tries to stir the pot...has her BS thrown back at her with facts and straight forward questions...and she runs.

TM...your "the gop and conservatives are idiots" crap is just that....crap.

why do you people pretend keeping Americans from voting is good for our country?

why do you people pretend keeping Americans from voting is good for our country?

why are you competley ignoring the truth of the situation.

We are not trying to keep Americans from voting.

We are trying to keep NON americans from voting.

Why do you spin it otherwise?

You have no idea whats going on.

This is a pattern by the republican party that stretches decades
