Both the German and Russian armies were largely dependent on horse-drawn supply trains right up until the end of the war despite the US and the UK giving Russia 637,000 trucks during WWII. During the entire war, Russia only managed to produce 197,100 unarmored wheeled vehicles. Almost all of those were American 1920s era designs that were two wheel drive and had a payload of a ton or less.
