Save the Children just released its 14th annual State of the World's Mothers report. Among other research and metrics, the report ranks 176 countries (all those with sufficient data and a national population above 100,000) on the best place to be a mother. Factors used to determine rankings include maternal health; children's well-being; and economic, educational and political status. The U.S. placed 30th, down 5 places from last year's report. Click through to see the top and bottom five countries in the rankings.

The Republican austerity plan to cut government spending on healthcare, education, police, firefighters, daycare, safety nets, etc etc is working exactly way it was designed to work.

Republicans are a strange collective, they claim to live in the greatest country in the world but-----but from local to state to federal - Republican policies are specifically designed to reduce America's standing in the world community.

Yup, republicans claim we live in the greatest nation on Earth and apparently feel the need to 'fix that'.

Constantly overcast cold places are the best for mothers?

1. Finland
2. Sweden
3. Norway
4. Iceland
5. Netherlands

Would anyone on these boards from the U.S. seriously consider moving to any of those places?

.
WTG family values socialists
Is family values and socialism redundant?
.

Well, if Save the Children says so it must be true. Everyone knows they are the only authority in the entire world on this subject.

What plan? I could have sworn the president was a Democrat and the Senate had a Democratic majority.

You're a tool.

I don't know if you're an incompetent message boarder or-----or if you were drinking when you posted your above message but with just a couple-three clicks you coulda/woulda discovered a similar list from "The Economist".
Socialist countries are family friendly, Mom friendly, and kid friendly --- the United States, not so much.

You're probably the perfect person to ask -- why do y'all Republicans hate women and children?

When The World created a Where to be Born index way back in 1988, the U.S. ranked first.

Best places to be born (from The Economist):
1. Switzerland
2. Australia
3. Norway
4. Sweden
5. Denmark
6. Singapore
7. New Zealand
8. Netherlands
9. Canada
10. Hong Kong
.

I would suggest that all the left wing Liberal women just move to one of those other 29 countries that are "ahead" of the U.S..

"studies" like that are for the gullible. Which you obviously are.
They show the rent-seeking carried out by mothers. Single women trying to get jobs and get ahead in the workforce? Not so much. Men trying to get ahead in the workforce? Not so much. Entrepreneurs trying to launch new businesses? Not so much.
SO the question really is, why do libs hate women, men, and entrepreneurs? Hell, why do libs hate success??

If you want to have kids it's not up to the government or anyone else to make it easy for you. it was your choice after all.

30th in 192 countries? That puts us in the top 1/6th, even if this list is indeed a fraud. It says in the article that we were 16th..

So why did the OP feel the need to distort the facts?

The index averages rankings from 11 geographic, social and economic factors. Switzerland ranked first and Nigeria ranked last. And the US? America came in at No. 16 behind Germany.

Some national governments have not yet abandoned their responsibility to their own people.

Statstics like these show us the outcomes that come from those decisions.

Republicans hate family values, women, children? Oh, my God - well, let's just shoot all the Republicans!

Life in this country has absolutely reached a level where every facet of our being is limited solely along party lines. Period. There is no in between. I'll guarantee I'm no fan of liberals, but I can't say that ALL Democrats are shitty people. Nor can I say that ALL Republicans are Saints. Any distinction of individuality, personal choice, or anything that sets aside someone with personal thoughts, personal ideas, personal values has almost disappeared from the landscape. No, we have to all be locked in to the same mindset.

We can't be male or female, we have to be uni-something ... perfectly EQUAL. No one can be one step over or under the other ... in other words ... life has to be Utopian. We can't be parents anymore ... because the "experts" can (and do) tell us everything we need to know about raising our children ... which is to say ... we know nothing and our children should be a collective "comodity." Our children have to be absolutely EQUAL in school ... nobody loses. Everybody is a winner so that nobody gets their feelings hurt. Yet, someone does lose - the children who actually try to achieve get hurt - the real winners who get no recognition for their efforts or accomplishments.

People who have money - and, mind you, the ONLY people who have money are the RICH REPUBLICANS - are anathema. The POOR people (who apparently are limited to DEMOCRATS) need to be taken care of to the extent that they are EQUAL to the rich.

America is down the tubes because of these theories. America was a great country because of hard work, personal distinction, achievement, a common thread of loving and appreciating the freedoms we once had. Our ancestors - no matter when they arrived - came to this country seeking freedom from the very injustices that some are now striving to impose on its citizens. America is nowhere near being the great nation it once was - and I miss that great nation.

You mean Obama didn't intend to "fix" anything when he said he was going to "fundamentally transform this nation?"

Other than protecting you from muggers, robbers and murderers, what "responsibilities" does our government have?

Based on what?

For your information, most of these countries would also rank in the top 10 of the Heritage index of economic freedom, so I don't know what you think you're proving. I'm certain you weren't trying to prove that cutting government regulations is the way to improve life for Americans.

Heritage Index of economic Freedom:

Index of Economic Freedom: Promoting Economic Opportunity and Prosperity by Country

  1. Hong Kong
  2. Singapore
  3. Australia
  4. New Zealand
  5. Switzerland
  6. Canada
  7. Chile
  8. Mauritius
  9. Denmark
  10. United States

They're all regurgitating the same study, dumb ass.

Socialist countries are authoritarian, oppressive, thieving, parasitic nations, of which I suspect you'd fit right in so why don't you go move to one since you're so envious and let the rest of us here in the U.S. who still believe in liberty to live in piece without the threat of Marxist pigs like yourself trying to confiscate the fruits we rightfully have earned from our labor?

You're probably the perfect person to ask -- why do y'all Republicans hate women and children?

I'm not a Republican. Please don't insult me. Another fail on your part, dumb ass. Why do y'all Commies hate America?

LMAO @ U - obviously two different studies using two different criteria at two different times is likely to result in two different outcomes. I thought you were smart enough (sorry, my bad) to figure that out on your own but...

...but, in addition to healthier Moms and kids, people in countries that ensure their Moms and children get good healthcare and education, live longer healthier lives than we do in the United States.
