US diplomat affirms support to Darfur

Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi and the U.S. embassy charge d'affaires in Sudan, Joseph Stafford discussed, here, the outputs of the international conference in support of development in Darfur.

Minister of Technology Development and Capacity Building at the DRA, Osman Ahmed Fadl said that the meeting discussed how to take advantage of international, Arab and African grants to support programmess and projects in the field of early recovery.

He said that the meeting also discussed the positive developments in Sudan's relations with the State of South Sudan and their impact on the situation in Darfur. Fadl said that the head of DRA chairman had praised the efforts of the U.S. administration towards Sudan in general and Darfur in particular, demanding in this regard, the international community in general and the United States to urge the Darfur armed groups to sit at the negotiating table to achieve the desired peace in Darfur.

On his part, the U.S. charge d'affaires in Sudan expressed his happiness to visit Darfur to see the reality of the situation. He stressed that the visit was also to confirm the good intentions of the U.S. administration towards the people of Darfur and to stand with them in order to reach a lasting peace and stability.

He said that his visits to the region will continue to support the DDPD parties to reach a peaceful solution and promotion of humanitarian work and build the capacity of DRA to be able to do its tasks, reiterating U.S. support for a peaceful solution to the Darfur issue.
He confirmed the U.S. administration's full commitment to support the people of Darfur in order to reach a lasting peace and stability.

During his meeting with members of the Government of North Darfur, Stafford reiterated his country's interest in the implementation of the DDPD. He announced the U.S. administration's commitment to support the DDPD parties to achieve early recovery, protection of human rights and the implementation of development projects and services.

He explained that his visit to El Fasher comes in order to see the situation in general, and confirm the good intentions of the U.S. administration towards the people of Darfur in order to reach a just and sustainable peace.

The U.S. diplomat said that his country has been supporting (UNAMID) annually with the amount of $ 400 million, besides support of humanitarian efforts in the amount of $ 200 million.

On the normalization of Sudanese-U.S. relations, Stafford said it needs a deep dialogues in order to remove all the challenges it face, declaring his country's readiness to conduct a comprehensive and frank dialogue to reach common ground contribute to normalization of relations between the two countries.

On his part, Acting Governor of North Darfur praised the U.S. support for humanitarian situations and peacekeeping forces in Darfur. He called on the U.S. administration and the international community to put pressure on the armed movements to catch up with peace.
