USPS Paycheck Program Favored By AOC & Sanders Starts Up Without Congressional Approval

What does the Constitution say about the postal service or check cashing?
The Constitution says nothing directly about the USPS. It says:

Congress has the power to "To establish Post Offices and post Roads."

It's also apparent the Federal Government is already deeply involved in banking, so there's nothing barring the government from using the USPS as a check cashing service.

Anyway, check cashing is only a small part of 'banking'. It will help millions of people who are paying ridiculous fees to get their checks cashed.

I use direct deposit and a bank card.

..and further bankrupt and slow down the Post Office in delivering mail and packages.

Congress cannot simply be bypassed like their approval doesn't matter.
There are as many reasons to withhold approval as there are reasons to start becoming a check cashing
business.

USPS is operated by a 11-person Board of Governors (which resembles the board of directors of a public corporation)—the Postmaster General, his deputy (currently vacant), and nine governors appointed by the President and approved by the Senate for seven-year terms. All six of the current independent governors were appointed by President Trump; three slots are empty. The Board appoints the Postmaster General, who acts as the CEO.

The funding to turn tge USPS into a banking system would vote from Congress, and I am sure the Post Master General could make such a massive change without approval. You have still not addressed the banking rules, regulations, etc....

This isn't like turning on a light switch...

The Republican Post Master General?

Smaller towns needed the Post Office. The price was right for all even with that at one time. The wages, benefits and pensions became enormous as the years went by. Smaller towns were not worth it including costs and many have been shut down at a certain level. The Post Office has been wanting to shut down for decades in this modern age. It will at some point. Even though it still has a purpose.

Fucking idiots.

What do you get when you add a new money losing service to your old money losing services?

DURR
The US post office losses money on some services(letter delivery) and makes money on other services(Parcel Delivery)...

Problem is the largest money looser is letter delivery to every house in US, this Constitutionally mandated..

So the the have to have offices in every locality so why not make some money back?

The Post Office has to maintain a very expensive infrastructure which they have to do...

This is infrastructure ca be used for other things and make money back..

no the PMG can not just do it......not something that major.....it has to go through a few bodies first....

There are SO many things wrong eith this thread.

A. Sanders and AOC had nothing to do with this. They may like the idea ( or not) but it is Trump's favorite Postmaster (DeJoy) who is in charge of it

B. It is an expansion of an existing service

C. The USPS primarily loses money because of a particular pension set up that NO OTHER ENTITY in the world uses and they do so because Republicans mandated it

D. Nothing in the Constitution prevents it

E. This will NOT hurt banks. It probably will hurt check cashing services who are little short of bottom feeders.

Poor folks can't afford bank accounts so they have to use check cashing services to convert theior paychecks into cash...and they get charged heavy fees to do that. You might take note that lower ranking MILITARY folks get hosed by this as well

You think they'd make money on this?

That's awful!!!

When did the Republican's mandate that?
How much would the Post Office make without the "mandate"?
Did all the Democrats vote against the mandate? Link?
