Third of all, I'm not sure what kind of 'pets' you are talking about, but there are places in Latin America where people might keep chickens as pets, which we in the US would eat for dinner. There are people in the US who keep ducks, geese, and pigs as pets, all of which would be considered suitable dinner fare for most of the country. There are even some people who consider horses to be acceptable food animals, while others of us consider them only acceptable as pets or as untouched wild animals. The point being, the fact that people have different attitudes towards whether certain animals are acceptable for human slaughter and consumption is not exactly a basis for some kind of emotional breakdown.

Socialism successfully exists in Europe because it is used only where capitalism cannot adequately serve the needs of the people. It's why we have our various government programs here. Some crucial things cannot be done with profit as the sole motivating factor.
