You mean that there are that many people, left and right who actually don't know how this deal with Assad and Putin happened?

In an interview with a reporter, where John Kerry was outlining the reason we need to assault Syria, a reporter asked him: "Is there anything Assad can do to avoid this military strike?" Kerry said: "Yes, he can turn all of his chemical weapons over to international control, but that isn't going to happen."

The next day, Putin and Assad announce that they agree to do that.

Now up to this point, obama has been touting an attack as the only solution, never once mentioning any kind of deal.

So this wasn't any kind of plan from obama, nor was it in response to the threat of attack from the US. It was an off-hand remark from Kerry that was used by Putin and Assad to avoid or put off the attack that obama wanted.

Really people, pay attention.

Unfortunately.....people know only too well what has been happening..... only too well.

It wasn't the next day that Putin jumped on that gaffe. It was within the hour. How did they come up with such a plan in less than an hour?

The Russians couldn't have. They had it all along. If they hadn't jumped on Kerry's foolishness they would have brought it up anyway.

Except Assad did not agree to turn them over to international control. He agreed to turn them over to the Russians.
There is no way that is humanly possible, for starters. there is a civil war on.
There is no way to monitor any "turn over" so we dont know what is being turned over. It might be rotten humus for all anyone will know.
Assad now says he wont do it unless the U.S. agrees to take military action off the table. So he gets a guarantee from Obama not to strike and doesnt give up anything. Obama gets nothing of what he wanted. Putin gets everything.
Still think Obama played this one?

They will, they just haven't finished formulating the spin yet.

Meanwhile---back on dunes we have thousands of pissed off Islamic mercenaries wondering where in the hell their air cover went......

Better Obama and Kerry has simply stated, "Bring it on!" How'd they work out the last time a President used that phrase; or when the POTUS with abject ignorance stated on 9/11/01, " "this crusade, this war on terrorism is going to take a while".

Obama spoke softly and sent a big stick to the region. We don't know that Kerry misspoke, and we don't know what will happen tomorrow. Nor do any of those above whose work on this message board can be summarized as an anthology of echoes.

I don't know. I don't think that even Putin expected Kerry to say that. He's just quick on the draw. Compared to him, in politics, obama's the noob.

The Russians couldn't have. They had it all along. If they hadn't jumped on Kerry's foolishness they would have brought it up anyway.

It was a speech that Kerry was making in UK. State Department folks immediately tried to walk it back, but too late, the Russians had grabbed hold of it. Less than an hour is correct.

There were more problems that never should have been in public in a 30 hour span of time than I've ever seen. That includes the Tuesday night speech, "That we almost were going to war for humanitarian reasons, but now we're going to try diplomacy." Weirdest of weirds.

I don't think this was 'planned.
