Washington Redskins trademark cancelled

Odd. I always considered the name Redskins, a high tribute to Native Americans.
sorry, you are wrong.... redskins is a pejorative....

No one is preventing Snyder from using the term, I read he has appealed. Should he lose, he can still use the term, but so can others, on merchandise, if they so choose. Just an example of liberty. :D

In fact, if you want to get technical here for a moment, Redskins merchandise can now be manufactured by anyone, so it's quite possible that millions more pieces of merchandise with "Redskins" written on it can find it's way to the public and therefore the scary name might now be seen more than ever. Oh the irony.

I believe the owner of the team has told them to shove it................

It's that simple. Never. To those that don't like it, oh well.

I'm glad Snyder has shown a spine during all this. Hope he sticks to his guns, even when they start extorting his advertisers.

Black Hawk lived; all the other terms are not insults. "Redskin" refers to the skin of humans, priced like animal pelts, and furs in US history. The Browns were named after their first, or second, coach. None of the other names refer to the slaughter of human beings(.)

The vast majority of Native Americans would disagree with you, Peach.
The "Redskins" was not meant (ever) to be an insult to the native Americans and they see it that way.

Obama played golf last week while the Marine gun smuggler was in jail

"They" do? Ok, tribal elder, this is a chance for in this country to learn, just a tiny bit, about US history, after the Europeans invaded. And, the the name wasn't a trademark until 1967:

What Would Be The Economic Impact Of A Redskins Name Change? - Forbes

Maybe Snyder will win on appeal, either way, he'll make more money than had the controversy never arose.

The next team to be targeted will be the Chicago Blackhawks. Then the Kansas City Chiefs, and so on. Yes, this is political correctness and it needs to stop, but this is also about the victim mentality that permeates our society now. You can be aggrieved by the slightest thing and bring suit to change whatever it is that made you a victim.

Good for President Obama! They should change the name from the Redskins to the "Whiteskins".

As for that Marine in Mexico... what the fuck is Sarah Palin and the Republicans doing about it? Not a damn thing! They don't give a shit!

We need to go after Cracker barrel. That is offensive to white people:cuckoo:

Yeah, then we can close that and AppleBees and the GOP base would starve to death.

We could close churches fried chicken down and Obama would starve to death. Oh wait that's a good idea.

And neither does the Redskins. "At Kingston Oklahoma high school, which is 58 percent Native American, the name ‘Redskins’ has been worn by its students for 104 years. In fact, ‘Redskins’ was a name first used by Native Americans.”

"“In 1932, the NFL team moved to the historic Fenway Park and were left under the leadership of George Preston Marshall. The very next year, Marshall changed the name to ‘Redskins.’ Why?” Beck continued. “Well that’s a good question for the president to ask … the name was changed to ‘Redskins’ to honor then-coach Lone Star Dietz, an American Sioux. So the name actually pays tribute to a great people.”

Maybe the few who do not understand the history of the name need to educate themselves first.

Black Hawk was an individual. And the next step in the paranoia parade must be: Obama & Snyder conspired to drive up the price of Redskins gear on the market. Obama ordered the Patent office to reject the name, will order the Court to reverse the decision; he & Snyder are meeting now......in Kenya...........

if some really want to fix a baseball team's name it aught to be the angels....
the los angles angels of Anaheim.....WTF!

"City of the Angels Angels"

to the great majority of the Angel fans in this City its still either the Anaheim Angels or California Angels.....i have never heard anyone acknowledge that ridiculous Los Angeles reference....
