Looking at the history of poor people who realize large cash windfalls, it is highly likely this woman will have so many "friends" and relatives she never knew beating down her door.
The galling aspect is that these moochers believe they are entitled to a portion of the windfall.

Of course, the first person whose request is met with "no" will become angry and look for retribution.

Whether you agree that this particular woman should be able to keep her lottery winnings or not, it is hard to justify someone living on the tax payer's dime and throwing money away gambling.

How do you know they don't live frugal lives? They can abstain from other luxuries more easily than not buying that ticket obviously.
