MAGA just cannot admit it, Slavery was the cause of the Civil War. They paid the price maintaining Slavery. My second Great Grandfather has his small town newspaper burned down twice, once by Confederate Government of Arkansas for not supporting that Government and again by Union Forces after the war.

Yup the State right they left over was slavery. And it was stupid Lincoln, and the republicans did not have the power in 1860 to get rid of slavery. What the south was worried about was that they would prevent new states joining the Union that were slave states and eventually would have the votes to outlaw slavery. So they went to war and lost the issue when they probably had 20 more years if they hadn't.

The federal government was already banning slavery in new states and territories. It wasn't something the slave states feared might happen, it was already happening. The slave states had recently lost the control of the federal government that they had held on the backs of three fifths of their slaves since the Constitution was signed and they could see the abolitionist handwriting on the wall. Slavery was doomed within the United States, it was only a matter of time until enough new free states were admitted to the union to pass an Amendment banning slavery.

What Sherman did in his march to the sea, was pretty common conduct in civil wars. As civil wars go, the ACW was uncommonly civil. Few, if any, massacres of rebel troops, not many actions taken against rebel civilians, no tribunals hanging prominent rebel citizens after the war.

The Union Army of Occupation (according to what I've read) was rounding up former Confederate Soldiers accused of attacking Union Soldiers and some them were hung. Great Grand Dad posted a letter of protest he had sent to the Military Governor. The Governor responded by burning his printing plant. It took over year for Grand Dad to rebuild. He kept a copy of that letter in a desk at his home.

My Great Grand Father lived in..........wait for it........ARKANSAS. There was only ONE Civil War Battle fought in Arkansas. Major General William T. Sherman's March To Sea took place in Georgia (burning Atlanta and Savanah).

The Battle of Pea RIdge was fought at Benton Arkanas between March 6 - March 8, 1862.
