No, I'm not wrong. The liberal position during that time period was to end slavery. It was the conservative position to keep it going. You might want to recheck your history.
If it was a liberal position to end slavery, why did it take a conservative republican like Abraham Lincoln to do so. Also, these days, it is the liberal democrats who are all into globalization. And it was the liberal democrat Bill Clinton who really got the ball rolling with sending our jobs to poor wage slave countries.
Your problem is that you are confusing today's definitions of conservatism and liberalism as well as today's Ideolological alignment of the Republican and Democratic parties with that of 150 years ago and you can't do that. Things have changed over time.
