What Is Your Bar For Impeachment?

"Bob Mueller will hunt both Trump and Pence to the ends of the Earth to secure impeachment and conviction" - Maddow

The "Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Let's all agree that if a President shoots a man on Fifth Avenue, he should be impeached, even if he committed the crime before he was President.

That's a pretty high crime.

But how low do you go with "Misdemeanors"? Why did our Founders use that word? I'm going to have to dust off some of my books to see if I can rediscover the reasoning behind that one.

The Republican party set the bar really, really low by impeaching a President over a blowjob.

Now, some will simp and say they impeached him over LYING about a blowjob, but come on. Why are you even asking him about a blowjob under oath, for chrissakes.

Everyone knows most of our Presidents screwed around. JFK was notorious, but even long before Kennedy, the private sex lives of Presidents were filled with mistresses. Yet we kept it private. You didn't make political hay out of it. Only if you were "caught in bed with a live boy or a dead girl".

I can see how it would be tempting to force Trump to be put under oath and to ask him about Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal and what pussies he might have grabbed. But I personally really don't want us to go there again.

I do think we need to know if our President cheated on his taxes or defrauded investors or defrauded insurance companies. But even that would not be an impeachable offense in my book.

We need to know those kinds of things so we know something about the character of the man, and then we can decide for ourselves whether to vote him out democratically rather than remove him by force.

So for me, in this current climate, the only potential crime I can foresee which would be a high enough bar for me is money laundering.

Ill-gotten gains are acquired through murder and terrorism and human trafficking and other "high crimes", and anyone who plays a part in aiding and abetting those crimes should be forcibly removed from office.

What is YOUR bar for impeachment?

Clinton should never have been impeached, the whole mess should have never hit above the line. Presidents are people too.
If we was to impeach Presidents for marital infidelity - half of them would have never served.
Having said that, Clinton lied under oath several times about it. And then lied to the American public about it flat out. It was also with a very young intern which raises the sleaze level also. But still....no...it should have never got out of the White House. The media used to understand the position is more important than a good story.

Hiding porn star payments from America just before an election.

Writing a letter to investigators saying there was a meeting in Trump Tower about adoption when it was actually a meeting about committing felonies and trying to hide the fact.

Those are crimes.

The problem with Trump as president is we’ve never had a criminal as president before.

So a lot of things he does aren’t against the law because it never occurred to anyone that we would have a Russian stooge in the White House.

Standing in front of the world and saying he believes a Russian despot over our Intel agencies deserves a spank and a very hard slap across the face, at the very least.

....and the fantasy of impeaching President Trump continues with the Delusionals.
Not for me. Impeachment is bad for the country. Very bad. That's why my bar is so high.

I am curious to know how low it is for others.

Despite my animosity toward Trump, the last thing I want is for him to be impeached. I'd much rather see him get his ass kicked to the curb by the voters.

Of course you want to see him defeated, so some leftwing Marxist asshole can go right back to abusing the DoJ and using it to spy on Republicans, while ignoring the crimes of Democrats.
No, I want Trump defeated so the Republican party can re-find its principles it threw out the window a long time ago.

Now, some will simp and say they impeached him over LYING about a blowjob, but come on. Why are you even asking him about a blowjob under oath, for chrissakes.

Why did he, a licensed lawyer, commit perjury about a blowjob?

You may recall, the line of questioning came about through the Paula Jones investigation. Ken Starr uncovered the affair with Lewinsky, thus the questioning.

Personally, I don't give two shits about a president cutting off a little strange in the Oval Office (though it does speak to a man's character, especially if married... and yes, Trump has no character...), but don't lie about it while your pants are still down around your ankles...

Like I always told my kids, if I'm asking you the question, odds are I already know the answer so don't lie, that will just piss me off...
The relationship with Lewinsky was consensual. Starr had no business going there. It was cheap, tawdry, and stupid and had nothing to do with fitness to serve as President. Especially considering the affairs of past Presidents.

We need to raise the bar a lot higher or not many Presidents will survive going forward.

Democrats are in a lot of trouble. People are fleeing the party in droves.
People are fleeing both parties in droves. Your propagandists only tell you half the story. Your propagandists are masters of the lie of omission.

I am guessing G5000 just received another monthly installment of Naked Putin.
I have no idea what that is.

However, we all know Trump, whether he colluded or not, got a leg up by Putin. And that is going to be in Mueller's report. To which you will all turn a blind eye.

After the last to years of a witch hunt and Obama led coup my new bar for impeachment is simple...from now on we try and impeach every damn dem that gets elected....reap what you sow dems....

Why aren't democrats concerned with the overreach and abuse power committed by the FBI/DOJ in spying on US citizens without cause? Democrats whinnied over terrorist being waterboarded, but they have no issue with the government recording and unmasking communications of US citizens for political reasons?

Democrats would be smart and do their job in holding the FBI/DOJ accountable for the clear abuse that happened during the Obama administration, because if you try and go after impeachment you will loss. And you might want to keep in mind TRUMP is completely find with playing by the standards set by democrats and that will include the standards of using a corrupt FBI/DOJ.
I have serious problems with the Patriot Act, and have posted my opposition to domestic spying many, many times on this and other forums since its passage.

It's amazing how short the memories of the Tard Herd are.

I used to call them goldfish for a reason.

I will never support the impeachment of a Republican president, period.
That's probably the most honest and truthful thing you have ever said on this forum. Possibly the ONLY honest and truthful thing you have ever said.

Trump was right. He really could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and people like you would still support him.

Being a buffoon and all-around national embarrassment is not enough. There are no "high crimes & misdemeanors".

And at this moment in time, he's only slightly more of an embarrassment than are the Dems, and the distance is closing.

So maybe they should start concentrating on getting their OWN shit together.
.
After Obama's election and re-election, did the Republicans get their shit together, or did they become more unprincipled, bigoted, and batshit crazy than ever before?

So...yeah...

We are on a downward spiral.

Perjury is impeachable offense, so get Trump to perjure himself and stop excusing William Jefferson Blythe III perjury...
Trump would never allow himself to be put under oath while President. He wouldn't survive five minutes without committing perjury.

The point is, questions about who he did or did not have sex with should not be part of the "fitness for office" criteria.

And it should not have been for Clinton.

Clinton was "exonorated" for a large number of alleged crimes by Starr. The whole thing started over some real estate deals Clinton made, none of which panned out into crimes.

But he was strung up over a blowjob by the bloodthirsty Republicans.

The Republican party set the bar really, really low by impeaching a President over a blowjob.

Sigh. . . . Such amazing ignorance. Go read the articles of impeachment against Clinton. They involved perjury to federal and civil court officials, genuine obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Not one of them sought to impeach him for his sexual conduct.
See what I said in my OP about "some will simp...".
