Rand Paul would have been totally ostricized by my middle school classes. The first absolute marvel is that someone voted for him....then the idea of that inept idiot actually speaking to the nation following one of the most important political addresses in the year is nearly unbelievable.

The necessity of a SOTU address is specified by the constitution and after two presidents actually spoke to the congress Jefferson elected to write his. That practice continued for 100 years until Woodrow Wilson again delivered a spoken address. At some point the Republicans couldn't stand it and decided to give a "Response" to the address. Then....about three years ago they decided they needed two responses, one from their party and one from the T party. Next thing you know they will be letting Donald Trump talk.

You're right. Both Parties have turned it into a "State of the Union Show". All that is needed is for the President to send a Letter to Congress.

Anything else is just another Super Bowl Halftime Show.

So according to you, the "mess" the country is in stems from how many responses there are to the SOTU address? Amazing, but not surprising.

Wow. The specificity with which you've countered this man's positions is really impressive. And way you took apart his arguments with logic, reason, and irrefutable historical evidence, you're one hell of debater, really...

Rand Paul to give official Tea Party response to SOTU

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., will deliver the Tea Party’s official response to President Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, Tea Party Express announced on Friday.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., will deliver the Republican response.

“Since the President has been re-elected, the debt has continued to skyrocket and unemployment has ticked up, but he has offered no solutions and has shown no leadership,” said Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer. “In contrast, Senator Rand Paul has put forth solutions that would spur economic growth and rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending. We are excited that Senator Paul, a conservative leader and strong voice for the Tea Party movement, will be offering our perspective on the state of the union.”

The first Tea Party response was given by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., in 2011, and former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain delivered last year’s response.
.........

“What is Rand Paul going to say that is so different than Rubio? Also, who decides his speech reps Tea Party and not Rubio’s?” tweeted one person.

What is Rand Paul going to say that is so different than Rubio?

is Rubio no longer a fire breathing Tea Party Republican ? - the Tea Party is giving two responses ?

rather than a contrast hopefully the country will see Rubio and Paul as the same sort of absolute radicalism they both represent as with Bachmann and Cain, and send them all packing their respective next elections.

Didn't Rubio run as a Tea Party candidate?

I agree.

I think Rubio is trying to swing away from the crazies.

Rand will likely make a big fool of himself.

Hes not too bright

So you think it's a bad thing that people can speak out against what the President says at the State of the Union? I think it's a waste of time but last time I checked, the First Amendment still is the law of the land and people are free to say whatever they want in response to the President. Especially when he lies through his teeth. And is there really any doubt that he's going to?
