What makes the United States so much better than the rest of the world?

Are you serious? Try living without any money; try raising a family without any money. Can you imagine it?

Doesn't mean we HAVE to let them in.
Who said we did? The lack of understanding of basic motivation for most of these immigrants just floors me. That's all I was speaking to.

I don't lack the understanding nor the empathy of what they are running from and running too. It's just not our problem.
If you say it's not our problem aren't you then showing a lack of empathy?

You're trying to make 1 + 1 =3.

We can't afford to "take in" everyone who wants to come here.
See that's an answer that gives a reasoning for not allowing them in. ( I personally think it bullshit, but that's ok ) However you didn't give that reasoning. You said " it's not our problem" that answer clearly shows lack of empathy. I just wanted to point out that fact.

No it doesn't. One can be empathetic and realize that there is nothing we can do. We do not have the resources to allow the world in here. I get it though, you're a Globalist and thinks there should not be an borders at all.

What is not my problem? The rest of the world is a sh#hole?

Is it the role of the US to take care of this little blue dot of a sh#hole of socialist governments across the world?

Is immigration a natural right?

What say you?
Yes it is. People have migrated in search of greener pastures throughout history. Unless you are native American I dare say that the very reason you are American is that immigration IS a natural right.

Speaking of native Americans, how did immigration work out for them I wonder?

Must be nice owning all those casinos, eh?

Uh, no. That's why there are borders.
This Continent was "conquered", "rights" had nothing to do with it.
Ah so by that logic you guys are hypocrites. After all you took what wasn't yours and now you are complaining that other people want to do the same. Or is it that you feel that as long as someone has the strength to take what isn't theirs they are justified?

Sure and that is a valid reasoning that wasn't the reasoning originally given by you was it?

As I sit here watching the groups of immigrants at the border wall trying to get into the US, I sit here and ask myself, is the US that much better than the rest of the world?

If so, why?

Have you ever been out of the country? Or even more than a state or two away from where you live?

noun: empathy
  1. the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Empathy requires no action.
Of course it was, are you the one who decides who means what in whatever they post? I get it though, it's just easier to assume what you think everyone else say's.

Many times and I've yet to see anywhere else I'd want to live.

I did not address it to you unless you are a sock puppet for Votto.

There are easily a half a dozen places I could live if I did not have a lifetime invested in the US. We are not that unique.

I can only go by what you post. I acknowledged twice that saying "we don't have the room" is a valid response that doesn't necessarily shows a lack of empathy. The first response did. Why is it so hard to say point taken and then say I didn't mean it that way? In no way does that weaken your argument but it does signal intellectual honesty. I've wrongly phrased and even straight up told nonsense, when this happens the honest thing to do is acknowledge it and move on.

So the message I'm getting is, people just want money.

Imagine that.

Are the greedy or is that just white American folk who want more money?

When we, as a society, can ensure that those already here are provided for, then we can take in those from other parts of the world that need help.

Is this deflection supposed to replace a well thought out counter argument? If that's the intention I can only say it's a massive fail.

What prevents you from doing both? Like i said I'm European, Belgian to be exact and we provide both for our people AND take in relatively more immigrants then the US, by a large margin.

When European settlers took from the natives through threat and violence, that was the way it was done by the natives. Those that had power took from those who did not. The various tribes had lands that they could hold through strength, and if they had sufficient strength, they took land from other tribes.

No hypocrisy here. We have the strength to hold this land, and that is sufficient. We decide who comes here, not anyone else.

Hurrah for Belgian. Give it ten years and then tell us how well that has worked out for Belgian.

So option 2, not hypocrites just assholes? In the end that's what it comes down to." We are the strong so we have the right." How am I to distinguish that kind of thinking from the thinking of someone like Hitler or Djengis Khan? Is that the new American philosophy?

Sure and you tell me how not having enough employed people to pay for the retirement of the baby boomers works for you.

I don't think the US is better, I'm kind of biased though since I'm European. On the other hand my wife's American and she thinks so too. What does that tell you? In my opinion America has one big draw that most other countries don't have. They call it Hollywood and it sells an idea of the US that sadly is as fake as the movies it produces. America is a great country.... if your rich. Most people though aren't rich and when you aren't rich the rest of the Western world scores better in most criteria that one would use to asses how good a country is.
But you can walk here from South and Central America and Mexico. So there's that.
True, one can walk here from places like Syria so we have that.
Since we have admitted 4 Syrians in 2018, I fail to see where that is a talking point here.
I just was drawing the correlation between people walking from south and central America to the US as people walking from Africa to Europe. I think the correlation is apt and I might add the richer countries in Europe in general have a different and more generous take on immigration then America.
Well, Europeans are on the whole more civilized than Americans. They've been at it a lot longer, I guess.

Not sure it's more civilized or more pragmatic. We have the same problem as the US an aging workforce and to few replacement workers. Immigration helps to mitigate this.
