The premise that any war has been fought since 1865 that threatened personal freedoms in the US is a false one, and THAT war stifled rather than preserved freedom in the US. The US government has been out of control ever since.
You make a fair point. I would argue that in Korea you were fighting for South Korean's freedoms. Ditto Viet Nam etc. US freedoms?? Uh-uh...doesn't even pass the giggle test..
What I will say is that most of the grunts on the ground (not the pollies or top brass) probably had the best intentions, but the thing that sticks in my craw in the case of South Korea (back then) and Viet Nam, is that you weren't freeing democracies.Both South Korea and Viet Nam were both corrupt regimes. Ditto Saudi Arabia now and Kuwait...Freeing a country from tyranny so another tyrant can take over is not usually a good reason to go to war...
