What Was The First Record You Ever Owned?

When I was growing up we didn't have a record player. Like most of the guys I served with I bought a ridiculous stereo in Vietnam, and my first album was Blood, Sweat & Tears. I think the name of the album was, "The Child is Father to the Man."

One bizarre part of it was that my turntable had a manual speed adjustment - actually it was a magnet that could be cranked over to slightly speed up or slow down the turntable. I used it without touching it for a year in Vietnam. Then I came home and when I played it for a couple friends they unanimously said, "This ain't right." I had been listening to the music at a slightly higher RPM than what it shoulda been. When we readjusted it to sound right (to them), it sounded wierd to me - having listened to those albums a hundred times at the wrong speed.
