Trump rarely uses any words more than two syllables. He's fairly monosyllabic in all of his speeches, using common nomenclature and sometimes slang, not to mention some nonexistent adverbs, such as "bigly". So yes, the masses of poorly educated relate to him. And the connection he made with his minions also insured that they would not question him, paving the way for inscrutable credibility.

You do realize, don't you, that one of the strongest attributes a president can have is the way he makes the citizens feel? Reagan, for example, used "It's morning in America" to great effect after Carter's doldrums and kicked off a massive economic boom. Bubba Clinton had a false sense of cheer that inspired the citizenry. Obama, OTOH, came into office with a clear chip on his shoulder, angry with America and took the country through economic hard times with a gloomy outlook. A president with an optimistic outlook can go a lot further than a pessimistic one.
