You can find examples on each side – politicians will try, within reason, to protect their own when terrible conduct comes to light and try to oust members of the opposition when small indiscretion is discovered.

My party and some of my party's representatives do not speak in ways that I approve of.... I only know that MY LONE democrat - Representative Tom Allen, has never spoken poorly of our troops, and if he did, I wqould write him a nasty letter and complain.
